Presidency Programme


Programme for the Czech Presidency in Statistics
(1 January – 30 June 2009)


General priorities of the Czech Presidency are determined by the 18-month programme, which was prepared jointly by the three Presidencies of France, Czech Republic and Sweden. In this respect the Czech Presidency will continue to work on the strengthening of European statistics to be able to satisfy priority expectations of users and thus play an important role in decision making of enlarged European Union, taking into account the principles of the European Code of Practice, burden on respondents and national statistical authorities and cost effectiveness. The Czech Presidency will build on the results achieved by the previous presidencies and strive to complete the legislative dossiers that are already well advanced and achieve progress on newly initiated dossiers.


The legislative dossiers in statistics expected to be dealt with by the Czech Presidency:
  • Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council concerning Statistics on Plant Protection Products
  • Recommendation for a Council Regulation amending Regulation (EC) No 2533/98 of 23 November 1998 concerning the Collection of Statistical Information by the European Central Bank
  • Proposal for a Regulation (EC) of the European Parliament and the Council amending Regulation (EC) No 808/2004 concerning Community Statistics on the Information Society
  • Proposal for a Regulation (EC) of the European Parliament and of the Council on Community Statistics on Tourism
  • Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on Crop Statistics
  • Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on European Statistics
  • Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on Community Statistics relating to the External Trade with non-Member Countries and repealing Council Regulation (EC) No 1172/95 (Extrastat)
  • Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Regulation (EC) No 638/2004 on Community Statistics relating to the Trading of Goods between Member States (Intrastat)
