Goodbye from the Czech Presidency in Statistics
The first half of the year 2009 was for the Czech Republic and the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO) connected with an extraordinary mission. For the first time in its history on 1 January 2009, the Czech Republic assumed the six-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This meant for the CZSO a privilege to chair the Council Working Party on Statistics but also a commitment to accomplish this task honourably.
The programme of the Czech Presidency followed from the activities launched and developed by the preceding countries holding the Presidency. In the area of statistics the CZSO took up the outstanding results and achievements of France and the French National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) and also of the previous Trio Presidency – Germany, Portugal and Slovenia.
The Presidency Team would like to thank all the partners involved in the process. We highly appreciate very fruitful and constructive discussions at the Council Working Party on Statistics as well as during the informal consultations and an effective support of all parties that significantly contributed to the progress of statistical dossiers.
We wish our Swedish colleagues a successful Presidency.
