Today, the Czech Statistical Office published data on dwellings from Census 2021. It includes data on the occupancy of dwellings, data on the number of persons living in the dwelling, the number of rooms, the total floor space and the tenure status of the dwelling are available.

The total number of occupied dwellings in the 2021 Census was just under 4.5 million and has increased by 9.1% since the Census 10 years ago.

"In terms of the tenure status of the dwelling, the most frequent were occupied dwellings in their own house, of which there were almost 1.6 million, which exceeded the number of occupied dwellings in private ownership by 470 000," says Marek Rojíček, President of the Czech Statistical Office.

Among all occupied dwellings (with an identified number of rooms), dwellings with three rooms predominated, followed by dwellings with two rooms. The number of these dwellings together exceeded 2.4 million and accounted for 58.4% of all occupied dwellings. On average, there were 3.2 rooms per dwelling.

Dwellings with floor space between 60 and 79 m2 inclusive were the most numerous and accounted for more than one quarter of all occupied dwellings with an identified floor space. There were only 290,000 dwellings with a floor space of less than 40 m2 in the Czech Republic.

In terms of the number of occupants, the largest number of dwellings were those in which lived only one person. This was followed by dwellings with two and three persons. The average number of persons living in one dwelling was 2.3. "As in other characteristics, the Capital City of Prague differed significantly from other regions. The share of occupied dwellings with one person was there the highest in the Czech Republic, at the expense of the share of dwellings with a higher number of occupants. In contrast it was the lowest or one of the lowest in Prague," adds Marek Rojíček. Accordingly, the average number of persons living in one dwelling was the lowest in the Capital City of Prague, reaching 2.0.

The published results, including tables and cartograms up to the level of regions, are available on the website www.scitani.cz while more detailed data are available in the CSO Public Database and open data sets. Data for occupied dwellings by number of persons living in the dwellings are available up to the level of administrative districts of municipalities with extended powers and administrative districts of Prague, while other basic data are available for all territorial units up to the level of municipalities and districts. The data outputs with selected combinations are available from the republic level up to the level of regions.

The complete data can be downloaded in open CSV format on Výsledky sčítáníotevřená data (Czech only).
