World Statistics Day 2010

Since this year, statisticians have their own day. United Nations Organization declared 20 October 2010 the World Statistics Day.

That day, we want to draw attention to:

  • increasing importance of statistics worldwide, especially growth of international statistics and their expansion even to rather exotic countries
  • population census - year 2010 is the year of worldwide population census (during 2005–2014 the census will take place for the first time in the history in the biggest number of countries all over the world).

Who organizes the World Statistics Day?

On the international level, UN Statistics Division takes care of the organization of the World Statistics Day. On the level of Member States, mainly National Statistical Offices do so.
