Statistical definitions of National Accounts

I. Basic definition (Coverage – sector, area)

The System of National Accounts represents a set of information on economic activity on the territory of a given state; it describes internal links as well as relations with rest of the world. The data is compiled according to the ESA 2010 methodology, is used for various state policies, and is used for member countries' contributions to the EU budget (according GNI). The European Commission regularly audits these data.

National Accounts statistics include the following areas:

- Quarterly estimates of GDP (preliminary estimate of GDP, resources and uses of GDP)

- Quarterly Sector Accounts QSA

- Annual National Accounts (Sector Accounts – a complete set of accounts including balance sheets, supply and use tables, employment accounts)

- Regional accounts

- Household satellite accounts

V. Data revision policy - corrections, revisions, refinement procedure of estimations

Quarterly accounts - usually with the current quarter the previous quarter is revised. With the 4th quarter, all quarters of a given year are revised. Together with the revision of the annual data, the quarterly data of these periods are also revised.

Annual accounts – the main publication date is June and then the beginning of January (reconciliation to the notification version of government accounts). T+6 months preliminary version, T+18 months final version, T+30 exceptionally revision due to data corrections. Main revisions of accounts every 5 years.
