“European data” available to general public

Starting from 1 October 2004, Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Communities, makes its databases accessible for general public. The access into New Cronos and Comext databases, until now available only against payment of a relatively high fee, will be free. The users can utilize predefined tables or compile a table by their own wish.

In addition to this news, the visitors of Eurostat’s website can choose from a thousand of other comparative tables or electronic versions of Eurostat’s publications according to their needs and interests.

Extensive innovation of Eurostat’s website will facilitate and accelerate the users access to requested data; it will also bring better orientation in the range of offered services together with making the work with this website more effective, so that finding of European data will become a fast and easy task.

Eurostat in co-operation with national statistical institutions simultaneously set up a net of national centres called European Statistical Data Support – ESDS. The section by Information Services Department of the Czech Statistical Office, with the following contact e-mail address: esds@gw.czso.cz , will serve as the national contact centre in the Czech Republic prepared to support users in their finding and working with European statistical information.

The information about new possibilities of European data extraction including all links will be available at the CZSO website www.czso.cz , in the part called “European Data”.
