People chose President of the Czech Republic in direct election already for the third time

Petr Pavel won in the historically third direct election of the President of the Czech Republic. 58.32% of voters voted for him. The second, Andrej Babiš, received 41.67% of votes. The election turnout was 70.25%.

5 759 197 valid votes in total decided about the winner of the second round of the election of the President.

Petr Pavel was successful in 4 024 municipalities in total, Andrej Babiš in 2 165 municipalities. In 65 municipalities, the number of votes was the same. Petr Pavel found the highest support of voters in Malá Úpa, where 91.18% of voters supported him, often having a voter ID. His opposing candidate, Andrej Babiš, received the highest number of votes in the municipality of Zadní Střítež in the Tábor area, namely 95.00%. In the comparison of Regions, Petr Pavel won most markedly in the Hl. m. Praha Region (the Capital City of Prague), in which he received 76.36% of votes, Andrej Babiš was the most successful in the Ústecký Region with the support of 54.47% of the voters’ votes,“ Eva Krumpová, First Vice President of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says. Petr Pavel won in 11 out of 14 Regions.

Among 22 932 Czech voters abroad in total, Petr Pavel dominated by gaining 95.21% of votes. Andrej Babiš only interested 4.78% of those voting at representative offices abroad.            

The turnout of 70.25% was by 2.01 percentage points (p. p.) higher than in the first round of the election two weeks ago. Between both the rounds, the turnout increased the most in the municipality of Tupadly in the Mělník area (+19.63 p. p.); the most significant turnout decrease was in the municipality of Vícemil in the Jindřichův Hradec area (-18.74 p. p.). The highest interest of voters was in the municipality of Kaničky in the Domažlice area and Vápovice in the Jihlava area; 100% of eligible voters came to vote there. On the other hand, the lowest number of voters was recorded in the municipality of Zběšičky in the Písek area, namely 40.85%.        

“Although the processing of results of the presidential election belongs from the point of view of the processing itself to the easiest ones, in terms of the interest of society and the media the election is, on the other hand, the most significant one. We paid really great attention to preparation of both rounds of the election including analysing all possible risks even in relation to the current foreign political situation, Marek Rojíček, President of the Czech Statistical Office, noted.  

The last electoral ward was processed on Saturday 28 January at 5:22 p.m. On Monday morning, the results of voting will be negotiated by the State Electoral Committee. After their approval, they will be published in the Collection of Laws of the Czech Republic.
