Senatorial elections in the Trutnov area: turnout 22.9%

The first round of additional elections to the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic took place in the Trutnov area. None of the nine candidates won the necessary overall majority of votes. Therefore, the second round will be carried out with the run-off between Jan Sobotka and Jiří Hlavatý.

“Two candidates won highest numbers of votes and go to the second round. Mr Jan Sobotka (56 years old), whose nominating party was STAN, received 7 615 votes, i.e. 33.5%. Mr Jiří Hlavatý (69 years old candidate) nominated by ANO received 5 728 votes, i.e. 25.2%. There were 22 718 valid votes in the elections,”  Eva Krumpová, Vice-President of the CZSO, said.

The other seven candidates contesting for votes of their voters in the first round of the elections were not successful.  Mr Jaroslav Dvorský received 10.6%, Ms Terezie Holovská 0.7%, Ms Blanka Horáková 2.0%, Ms Iva Řezníčková 7.1%, Ms Klára Sovová 11.9%, Mr Karel Šklíba 5.7%, and Ms Luďka Tomešová 3.3%.

“The Czech Statistical Office will submit the election results on Monday to the State Electoral Committee. The second round of the additional senatorial elections will take place on 12 January (Friday) and 13 January (Saturday),” Marek Rojíček, Vice-President of the CZSO, added.

Also local elections for the municipality of Prameny in the Karlovy Vary Region take place today. The polling stations will close at 10 p.m. In total, 19 candidates stand for five positions of councillors.
