The construction output decreased by 3.7%, year-on-year (y-o-y), in real terms, in September. In the month-on-month (m-o-m) comparison, it was by 1.7% lower. The planning and building control authorities granted by 9.9% less building permits, y-o-y. The approximate value of permitted constructions increased by 16.2%, y-o-y. The number of started dwellings decreased by 43.4%, y-o-y. The number of completed dwellings increased by 48.5%, y-o-y.

“In September, construction output returned to a month-on-month decrease and also decreased in the year-on-year comparison. Civil engineering construction, the comparison basis of which was lower, was a bit more successful. Building construction had to cope with a higher comparison basis and its growth was slowed down by the segment of smaller enterprises,” Petra Cuřínová, Head of the Construction Statistics Unit of the CZSO, says.

The construction output decreased in real terms by 1.7%, month-on-month. In the year-on-year comparison, it dropped by 3.7%. The production in building construction decreased by 4.8%, compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. The production of civil engineering construction decreased by 1.1%, year-on-year.

The planning and building control authorities granted 6 768 building permits; it was by 9.9% less, y-o-y. “The approximate value of the permitted constructions reached CZK 41 billion and it increased by 16.2%, year-on-year. This y-o-y growth was influenced by granting building permits to large constructions of transport infrastructure. Should we deduct constructions for over one billion CZK and after having taken into account the price development, we get a decrease by 5%,” Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department, explains.

The number of dwellings started decreased by 43.4%, y-o-y, and reached the number of 2 510 dwellings. The number of dwellings completed increased by 48.5%, y-o-y, and amounted to 3 130 dwellings.

The average registered number of employees in construction increased by 0.9%, y-o-y. Their average gross monthly nominal wage increased by 9.9%, y-o-y.

According to Eurostat, construction output in the EU27 in August 2022 increased by 2.8%, year-on-year. Building construction increased by 3.1% and civil engineering by 0.5%. According to a preliminary release calendar, Eurostat will release data for September 2022 on 17 November 2022.
