Construction Output Grew by 2.3% in 2014

In December 2014 the construction output dropped by 6.6%, year-on-year (y-o-y), in real terms. The planning and building control authorities granted by 3.8% less building permits, y-o-y, and the approximate value of permitted constructions dropped by 7.7%, y-o-y. The number of started dwellings rose by 10.5%, y-o-y, and the number of completed dwellings fell by 14.5%, y-o-y.

In 2014 the construction output increased by 2.3%, y-o-y, in real terms and compared to the that of 2008, the year of boom, the construction output dropped by 22.1%.

In December 2014 the construction output decreased by 6.6%, y-o-y, in real terms. The working day adjusted construction output in December 2014 was by 7.9% lower, y-o-y. December 2014 was by one working day longer compared to December 2013. The seasonally adjusted construction output in December 2014 was by 3.3% lower, month-on-month (m-o-m). The production in building construction decreased by 5.3% (contribution
-3.8 percentage points (p.p.)), y-o-y. The production of civil engineering construction dropped by 10.0% (contribution -2.8 p.p.), y-o-y.

The average registered number of employees*), in construction enterprises with 50+ employees fell by 2.5%, y-o-y, in December 2014. Their average gross monthly nominal wage decreased by 0.9%, compared year-on-year, and reached CZK 31 959.

In December 2014 the number of building permits granted decreased by 3.8%, y-o-y; the planning and building control authorities granted 5 798 building permits. The approximate value of the permitted constructions attained CZK 20.4 billion and dropped by 7.7% compared to the same period of 2013.

The number of dwellings started in December 2014 grew by 10.5%, y-o-y, and attained 1 904 dwellings. The number of dwellings started in family houses decreased by 0.3% and that of dwellings started in multi-dwelling buildings grew by 3.1%.

The number of completed dwellings declined by 14.5%, y-o-y, in December 2014 and was 2 747 dwellings. The number of completed dwellings in family houses dropped by 24.2%. The number of completed dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings grew by 17.7%.

According to Eurostat the WDA (working days adjusted) construction output in the EU28 increased by 2.5%, y-o-y, in November 2014. Buildings increased by 3.3% and civil engineering works fell by 0.5%. According to the preliminary schedule Eurostat shall release the data for December 2014 on 18 February 2015 (at 11:00 a.m.).

 

Construction in Q4 2014

In Q4 2014 the construction output decreased by 0.5%, y-o-y, in real terms. If working days adjusted it was at the level of 2013. Q4 2014 was by one working day shorter compared to the same period of the previous year. Compared to Q3 2014 the seasonally adjusted construction output was by 0.5% lower, quarter-on-quarter. The production in building construction decreased by 2.8% (contribution -1.9 p.p.), y-o-y, and the production of civil engineering construction increased by 4.2% (contribution +1.4 p.p.), y-o-y.

The average registered number of employees1) in construction enterprises with 50+ employees fell by 2.9%, y-o-y in Q4 2014. Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 2.8%, y-o-y and reached CZK 32 453.

In Q4 2014 the number of building orders of construction enterprises with 50+ employees increased by 15.1%, y-o-y; the enterprises received and concluded 12 719 orders in the Czech Republic. The total value of the orders decreased by 1.1% and was CZK 47.1 billion. The building construction orders were for CZK 16.1 billion (drop by 16.7%) and those for civil engineering constructions were for CZK 31.0 billion (growth by 9.7%). The average value of a new concluded building order was CZK 3.7 million and was by 14.0% lower, y-o-y.

In Q4 2014 the number of building permits granted decreased by 2.1%, y-o-y; the planning and building control authorities granted 19 484 building permits. The approximate value of constructions permitted in Q4 2014 accounted for CZK 57.9 billion and decreased by 12.2% compared to the same period of 2013.

The floor area of buildings permitted in Q4 2014 was 1 155.1 thousand m2, which means a growth by 29.4% compared y-o-y. The floor area of permitted residential buildings increased by 16.8%, and that of non-residential buildings jumped up by 47.5%.

The number of dwellings started in Q4 2014 increased by 12.2%, y-o-y and accounted for 5 802 dwellings. The number of dwellings started in family houses grew by 7.0%, and that in multi-dwelling buildings jumped up by 31.2%.

The number of completed dwellings in Q4 2014 declined by 4.8%, y-o-y and attained 6 988 dwellings. The number of completed dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings increased by 30.3%, y-o-y, and the number of completed dwellings in family houses dropped by 14.5%.

 

Construction in 2014

In 2014 the construction output increased by 2.3%, y-o-y, in real terms. The production in building construction remained at the level of 2013, y-o-y, and the production of civil engineering construction increased by 7.5% (contribution +2.3 p.p.), y-o-y. Compared to the year 2008, the year of boom, the construction output in 2014 dropped by 22.1%.

The average registered number of employees1) in construction enterprises with 50+ employees fell by 4.8%, y-o-y in 2014. Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 2.9%, y-o-y and reached CZK 29 827.

In 2014 the number of building orders of construction enterprises with 50+ employees increased by 9.7%, y-o-y; the enterprises received and concluded 45 714 orders in the Czech Republic. The total value of the orders grew by 23.3% and was CZK 184.7 billion. The building construction orders were for CZK 68.5 billion (growth by 2.0%) and those for civil engineering constructions were for CZK 116.2 billion (growth by 40.6%). In 2014 the average value of a newly concluded building order accounted for CZK 4.0 million and was by 12.4% higher, y-o-y.

At the end of 2014 construction enterprises with 50+ employees had 12.6 thousand orders contracted (growth by 23.6%) and these orders represented the inventory of still unimplemented construction works of the total value of CZK 162.4 billion (growth by 15.1%).

In 2014 the number of building permits granted dropped by 6.5%, y-o-y; the planning and building control authorities granted 79 357 building permits. The approximate value of constructions permitted in 2014 accounted for CZK 249.8 billion and decreased by 3.1% compared to that of 2013.

The floor area of buildings permitted in 2014 was 4 602.9 thousand m2, which means a drop by 0.7% compared y-o-y. The floor area of permitted residential buildings increased by 7.2%, and that of non-residential buildings dropped by 9.0%.

The number of dwellings started in 2014 increased by 10.1%, y-o-y and accounted for 24 351 dwellings. The number of dwellings started in multi-dwelling buildings jumped up by 37.1%, and that in family houses declined by 0.4%.

The number of completed dwellings in 2014 declined by 5.4%, y-o-y and attained 23 881 dwellings. The number of completed dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings increased by 2.4%, y-o-y, and the number of completed dwellings in family houses fell by 9.6%.

*) The registered number of employees indicator does not include persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in construction also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, yet within activities of services (CZ-NACE 78.2).
