Warm November mitigated the decline in production

In November 2012 the construction output fell by 2.7%, year-on-year (y-o-y), in real terms. The planning and building control authorities granted by 14.1% less building permits, y-o-y, and the approximate value of permitted constructions increased by 1.3%, y-o-y. The number of started dwellings was down by 17.6%, y-o-y, and the number of completed dwellings dropped by 12.9%, y-o-y.

In November 2012 the construction output decreased by 2.7%, y-o-y, in real terms. The working days adjusted construction output in November 2012 was by 3.9% lower, y-o-y. November 2012 was by one working day longer compared to the same month of the previous year. The seasonally adjusted construction output in November 2012 was by 1.3% higher, month-on-month. The production in building construction decreased by 0.1% (contribution -0.1 percentage point (p.p.)), y-o-y, and the production of civil engineering construction dropped by 8.0% (contribution -2.6 p.p.), y-o-y. Compared to the same period of 2008, the year of boom, the construction output declined by 17.3% since the beginning of 2012 till the end of November 2012.

The average registered number of employees 1) in construction enterprises with 50+ employees fell by 5.1%, y-o-y, in November 2012. Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 4.1%, y -o-y, and reached CZK 34 773.

In November 2012 the number of building permits granted dropped by 14.1%, y-o-y; the planning and building control authorities granted 7 668 building permits. The approximate value of the permitted constructions attained CZK 22.7 billion and increased by 1.3% compared to the same period of 2011.

The number of dwellings started in November 2012 dropped by 17.6%, y-o-y, and attained 1 449 dwellings. The number of dwellings started in multi-dwelling buildings plummeted by 60.1%. The number of dwellings started in family houses declined by 14.1%, year-on-year.

The number of completed dwellings in November 2012 dropped by 12.9%, y-o-y, and was 2 540 dwellings. The number of completed dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings declined by 28.4%. The number of completed dwellings in family houses dropped by 6.9%.

According to Eurostat the WDA (working days adjusted) construction output in the EU27 decreased by 4.4%, y-o-y, in October 2012. Building construction shrunk by 4.5% and civil engineering construction decreased by 3.5%. Eurostat shall release the data for November 2012 on 17 January 2013 (at 11:00 a.m.).

1) The registered number of employees indicator does not include: persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises, and cooperating household members, who do not have an employment contract. Data on the registered number of employees in construction also exclude agency workers, who have an employment contract, however, in other activity than construction.
