Further decline in construction output and in housing construction

In April 2012 the construction output dropped by 2.7%, year-on-year (y-o-y), in real terms. The planning and building control authorities granted by 10.8% less building permits, y-o-y, and the approximate value of permitted constructions decreased by 2.8%, y-o-y. The number of started dwellings dropped by 17.8%, y-o-y, and the number of completed dwellings plummeted by 28.3%, y-o-y.

In April 2012 the construction output decreased by 2.7%, y-o-y, in real terms. The seasonally adjusted construction output in April 2012 was by 0.5% lower, month-on-month (m-o-m).
The production in building construction decreased by 0.6% (contribution -0.4 percentage points (p.p.)), y-o-y, and the production of civil engineering construction dropped by 7.8% (contribution -2.3 p.p.), y-o-y. The construction output from this year beginning to the end of April of this year plummeted by 30.4% compared to the same period of 2008, the year of boom.

The average registered number of employees 1) in construction enterprises with 50+ employees fell by 4.3%, y-o-y, in April 2012. Their average monthly nominal wage decreased by 3.8%, y -o-y, and reached CZK 28 826.

In April 2012 the number of building permits granted decreased by 10.8%, y-o-y; the planning and building control authorities granted 8 218 building permits. The approximate value of the permitted constructions attained CZK 23.7 billion and dropped by 2.8% compared to the same period of 2011.

The number of dwellings started in April 2012 dropped by 17.8%, y-o-y, and attained 1 863 dwellings. The number of dwellings started in multi-dwelling buildings plummeted by 38.2% and in family houses it dropped by 15.7%.

The number of completed dwellings plummeted by 28.3%, y-o-y, and was 1 500 dwellings in April 2012. The number of completed dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings plummeted by 64.8%. The number of completed dwellings in family houses decreased by 13.6%.

According to Eurostat the WDA (working days adjusted) construction output in the EU27 decreased by 3.9%, y-o-y, in March 2012. Building construction fell by 3.1% and civil engineering construction dropped by 8.0%. Eurostat shall release the data for April 2012 on 19 June 2012 (at 11:00 a.m.).

1) The registered number of employees indicator does not include: persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises, and cooperating household members, who do not have an employment contract. Data on the registered number of employees in construction also exclude agency workers, who have an employment contract, however, in other activity than construction.
