Construction output increased

In July 2013 the construction output increased by 0.2%, year-on-year (y-o-y). The planning and building control authorities granted by 11.5% less building permits, y-o-y, and the approximate value of permitted constructions decreased by 14.3%, y-o-y. The number of started dwellings was up by 12.6%, y-o-y, and the number of completed dwellings dropped by 22.7%, y-o-y.

In July 2013 the construction output increased by 0.2%, y-o-y. If working days adjusted the construction output decreased by 2.7%. July 2013 was by two working days longer than the same month of the previous year. The seasonally adjusted construction output in July 2013 was by 4.8% higher, month-on-month (m-o-m). The production in building construction increased by 2.7% (contribution +1.9 percentage points (p.p.)), y-o-y, and the production of civil engineering construction dropped by 5.5% (contribution -1.7 p.p.), y-o-y. Compared to the same period of 2008, the year of boom, the construction output plummeted by 30.2% since the beginning of 2013 till the end of July 2013.

The average registered number of employees *) in construction enterprises with 50+ employees fell by 9.0%, y-o-y, in July 2013. Their average gross monthly nominal wage decreased by 1.4%, compared year-on-year, and reached CZK 30 401.

In July 2013 the number of building permits granted decreased by 11.5%, y-o-y; the planning and building control authorities granted 7 377 building permits. The approximate value of the permitted constructions attained CZK 21.9 billion and dropped by 14.3% compared to the same period of 2012.

The number of dwellings started in July 2013 increased by 12.6%, y-o-y, and attained 2 140 dwellings. The number of dwellings started in multi-dwelling buildings rose by almost three times and that of dwellings started in family houses dropped by 8.4%.

The number of completed dwellings fell by 22.7%, y-o-y, in July 2013 and was 1 563 dwellings. The number of completed dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings declined by 21.8%. The number of completed dwellings in family houses dropped by 23.1%.

According to Eurostat the WDA (working days adjusted) construction output in the EU28 decreased by 1.5%, y-o-y, in June 2013. Buildings dropped by 1.2% and civil engineering works fell by 2.5%. According to the preliminary schedule Eurostat shall release the data for July 2013 on 18 September 2013 (at 11:00 a.m.).

*) The registered number of employees indicator does not include: persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises, and cooperating household members, who do not have an employment contract. Data on the registered number of employees in construction also exclude agency workers, who have an employment contract, however, in other activity than construction.
