In June 2013 the construction output declined by 11.1%, year-on-year (y-o-y). The planning and building control authorities granted by 16.4% less building permits, y-o-y, and the approximate value of permitted constructions increased by 7.6%, y-o-y. The number of started dwellings was down 13.2%, y-o-y, and the number of completed dwellings plummeted by 37.7%, y-o-y.

In June 2013 the construction output decreased by 11.1%, y-o-y. If working days adjusted the construction output decreased by 9.8%. June 2013 was by one working day shorter than the same month of the previous year. The seasonally adjusted construction output in June 2013 was by 1.3% higher, month-on-month (m-o-m). The production in building construction decreased by 12.5% (contribution -8.6 percentage points (p.p.)), y-o-y, and the production of civil engineering construction dropped by 8.1% (contribution -2.5 p.p.), y-o-y. Compared to the same period of 2008, the year of boom, the construction output plummeted by 31.9% since the beginning of 2013 till the end of June 2013.

The average registered number of employees 1) in construction enterprises with 50+ employees fell by 8.0%, y-o-y, in June 2013. Their average monthly nominal wage decreased by 2.7%, compared year-on-year, and reached CZK 27 543.

In June 2013 the number of building permits granted decreased by 16.4%, y-o-y; the planning and building control authorities granted 7 264 building permits. The approximate value of the permitted constructions attained CZK 23.1 billion and rose by 7.6% compared to the same period of 2012.

The number of dwellings started in June 2013 decreased by 13.2%, y-o-y, and attained 1 679 dwellings. The number of dwellings started in multi-dwelling buildings jumped up by 60.0% and that of dwellings started in family houses dropped by 16.0%.

The number of completed dwellings fell by 37.7%, y-o-y, in June 2013 and was 1 528 dwellings. The number of completed dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings plummeted by 67.6%. The number of completed dwellings in family houses dropped by 14.5%.

According to Eurostat the WDA (working days adjusted) construction output in the EU27 decreased by 5.1%, y-o-y, in May 2013. Buildings dropped by 4.7% and civil engineering works fell by 6.8%. Eurostat shall release the data for June 2013 on 19 August 2013 (at 11:00 a.m.).

Construction in Q2 2013

In Q2 2013 the construction output decreased by 12.8%, y-o-y. The production in building construction decreased by 12.4% (contribution -8.6 p.p.), y-o-y, and the production of civil engineering construction dropped by 13.4% (contribution -4.2 p.p.), y-o-y.

The average registered number of employees in construction enterprises with 50+ employees decreased by 8.2%, y-o-y in Q2 2013. Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 1.7%, y-o-y and reached CZK 29 086.

In Q2 2013 the number of building orders of construction enterprises with 50+ employees decreased by 8.8%, y-o-y; the enterprises received and concluded 9 815 orders in the Czech Republic. The total value of the orders dropped by 14.8%, y-o-y and was CZK 32.6 billion. The building construction orders were for CZK 17.0 billion (drop by 16.9%) and those for civil engineering works were for CZK 15.6 billion (decrease by 12.3%). In Q2 2013 the average value of a newly concluded building order accounted for CZK 3.3 million and was by 6.6% lower, y-o-y.
At the end of Q2 2013 construction enterprises with 50+ employees had 11.4 thousand orders contracted (drop by 11.6%) and these orders represented the inventory of still unimplemented construction works of the total value of CZK 134.7 billion (drop by 14.4%).

In Q2 2013 the number of building permits granted was down by 16.5%, y-o-y; the planning and building control authorities granted 21 587 building permits. The approximate value of constructions permitted in Q2 2013 accounted for CZK 68.4 billion and decreased by 6.4% compared to the same period of 2012.

The floor area of buildings permitted in Q2 2013 was 1 440.9 thousand m 2, which means an increase by 8.4% compared y-o-y. The floor area of permitted residential buildings decreased by 3.3%, and that of non-residential buildings rose by 20.1%.

The number of dwellings started in Q2 2013 decreased by 3.9%, y-o-y and accounted for 5 767 dwellings. The number of dwellings started in multi-dwelling buildings jumped up by 91.6% and that in family houses decreased by 12.6%.

The number of completed dwellings in Q2 2013 dropped by 22.1%, y-o-y and attained 5 310 dwellings. The number of completed dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings fell by 26.1%, y-o-y, and the number of completed dwellings in family houses decreased by 8.8%.

1) The registered number of employees indicator does not include: persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises, and cooperating household members, who do not have an employment contract. Data on the registered number of employees in construction also exclude agency workers, who have an employment contract, however, in other activity than construction.
