Sales in services dropping for three successive quarters

In the Q2 2013, seasonally adjusted sales in services decreased, quarter-on-quarter, at constant prices by 1.6%. Non-adjusted sales dropped by 2.1%, year-on-year, the same as working days adjusted sales (in the Q2 2013 there was the same number of working days as in the Q2 2012).

In the Q2 2013, seasonally adjusted sales in services 1 ) decreased at constant prices by 1.6%, quarter-on-quarter. Year-on-year, non-adjusted sales decreased by 2.1%. Growth was recorded, among CZ-NACE divisions of services, only by transportation and storage and by information and communication; the deepest y-o-y drop of sales was reported by professional, scientific and technical activities.

Year-on-year development of seasonally non-adjusted sales in services broken down by CZ-NACE division:

- sales in transportation and storage increased by 1.6%. The growth was the most contributed to by warehousing and support activities for transportation (growth by 4.4%), further by air transport (+4.2%) and land transport and transport via pipelines (+0.5%). The floods in June influenced the sales development in water transport, which dropped by 10.8% in the Q2 2013. Sales for postal and courier activities continued to decrease for the sixth successive quarter (this time by -7.4%);

- sales in accommodation and food service activities decreased by 1.1%. In accommodation sales grew by 0.1%, while in food and beverage service activities they recorded decrease by 1.7%;

- sales in information and communication increased by 0.6% thanks to the development in telecommunications (+5.8%); in other divisions sales dropped. The deepest drop was recorded at music and motion picture activities (-8.4%) and at programming and broadcasting activities (-7.5%). Lower sales were reported also by publishing activities (drop by 5.5%), information service activities (-2.2%), and computer programming, consultancy and related activities, which include e.g. programming, software administration, and consultancy in the area of IT (-0.4%);

- sales in real estate activities dropped by 5.9%. Real estate activities on a fee or contract basis dropped by 8.9% and sales in buying and selling of own real estate and renting and operating of own or leased real estate decreased by 5.0%;

- sales in professional, scientific and technical activities 2 ) decreased by 9.2%. The deepest decrease, again, was recorded in advertising and market research (-17.3%), also sales for architectural and engineering activities dropped (-14.4%), and for other professional, scientific and technical activities (-9.6%). On the contrary, growth was reported by activities of head offices; management consultancy activities (+10.1%), and legal and accounting activities (+1.2%);

- sales in administrative and support service activities 3 ) decreased by 0.7%; growth was recorded only by office administrative, office support and other business support activities (+5.0%) and security and investigation activities (+0.5%). The biggest contributors to the overall decrease were: rental and leasing activities (drop by 4.4%), travel agency, tour operator and other reservation service and related activities (-2.7%), and services to buildings and landscape activities (-2.9%). After having grown for twelve quarters, sales of employment activities dropped as well (-1.1%).
