Continuing growth of employment placement agencies

In Q1 2011, seasonally adjusted sales in services increased by 1.0%, quarter-on-quarter, at constant prices. After working day adjustment they stagnated, year-on-year, without adjustment sales increased by 0.5%, y-o-y. The biggest sales growth was recorded in administrative and support service activities (mainly in employment placement agencies).

In Q1 2011, seasonally adjusted sales in services 1) increased by 1.0%, quarter-on-quarter, at constant prices. After working day adjustment (index 100.0%, in Q1 2011 there was one working day more) they stagnated, year-on-year; without adjustment sales increased by 0.5%, y-o-y. The biggest sales growth was recorded in administrative and support service activities (mainly in employment placement agencies).

Year-on-year development of not seasonally adjusted sales in services broken down by CZ-NACE division:
  • sales in transportation and storage increased by 3.6%, due to the influence of sales growth in land transport and transport via pipelines (+7.8%) and postal and courier activities (+2.1%). Lower sales were reported by water transport (-19.9%) and air transport (-6.8%), which were influenced by organizational changes in some airline companies and riots in some tourist destinations. Sales decreased also in warehousing and support activities for transportation (-0.4%).
  • sales in accommodation and food service activities have been dropping since Q1 2008, this time by 2.5%, especially due to the development in food and beverage service activities (sales drop -4.1%). In accommodation, on the contrary, sales increased by 1.0%.
  • sales in information and communication increased by 0.6%; it was contributed to mainly by computer programming, consultancy and related activities (+7.8%), publishing activities (+6.3%), information service activities, and programming and broadcasting activities (both +2.4%). Sales drop by 5.9% was reported by telecommunications and decrease by 7.3% by music and motion picture activities, which include, for example, motion picture production, distribution and projection activities, and music publishing activities.
  • sales in real estate activities dropped by 1.7%. Sales in buying and selling of own real estate, and renting and operating of own or leased real estate decreased by 2.1%; drop of sales of real estate activities on a fee or contract basis slackened (drop by 1.0%).
  • sales in professional, scientific and technical activities2) dropped by 5.7%. They increased only in other professional, scientific and technical activities (+5.1%), which include especially photographic, interpreting and design services. The deepest fall was recorded in activities of head offices; management consultancy activities (-12.3%); the biggest influence on the development of the industry came from architectural and engineering activities (-9.8%) and advertising and market research (-7.9%).
  • sales in administrative and support service activities3) increased by 4.0%. Decrease was recorded only in services to buildings and landscape activities (-4.9%) and in travel agency, tour operator and other reservation service and related activities (-0.2%). After a deep fall in 2009, sales growth of employment activities gradually accelerated and in Q1 2011 it was 24.0%. Sales of office administrative, office support and other business support activities grew by 6.1%, security and investigation activities by 4.1%, and rental and leasing activities by 3.6%.

    1) For the purpose of News Releases, services include the following CZ-NACE sections – Transportation and storage (H), Accommodation and food service activities (I), Information and communication (J), Real estate activities (L), Professional, scientific and technical activities – without Scientific research and development and Veterinary activities (M without 72 and 75), Administrative and support service activities without Landscape service activities (N without 81.3).
    2) For the purpose of News Releases section M – Professional, scientific and technical activities does not include CZ-NACE 72 – Scientific research and development and CZ-NACE 75 – Veterinary activities.
    3) For the purpose of News Releases section N – Administrative and support service activities does not include CZ-NACE 81.3 – Landscape service activities.
