Industrial production decreased

In June 2013, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 5.3%, year-on-year. Working days adjusted industrial production dropped by 3.0%. Compared to the previous month, seasonally adjusted industrial production was lower by 0.9%. The value of new orders decreased by 0.8%, y-o-y.

In June 2013, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 5.3%, y-o-y. Working days adjusted (WDA) industrial production decreased by 3.0%. There was 1 working day less in June 2013 compared to June 2012. Seasonally adjusted industrial production (including WDA) was lower by 0.9%, m-o-m. According to the CZSO estimate, the floods in June caused 0.2 p.p. decrease of industrial production, which means that after exclusion of the influence of the floods the industrial production would drop by 5.1% at constant prices, y-o-y. The following contributed the most to the y-o-y decrease of industrial production: mining and quarrying (contribution -1.0 p.p., drop by 21.2%), manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution -0.8 p.p., drop by 11.0%), and manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution -0.6 p.p., drop by 6.7%). Industrial production grew most significantly in manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution +0.4% p.p., growth by 22.7%), manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (contribution +0.1 p.p., growth by 10.0%), and other manufacturing (contribution +0.04 p.p., growth by 2.1%).

Sales from industrial activity at current prices decreased by 4.3%, y-o-y, in June 2013. Direct export sales of industrial enterprises decreased at current prices by 1.1%. Domestic sales, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises decreased at current prices by 7.7%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities decreased by 0.8%, y-o-y, in June 2013. Non-domestic new orders decreased by 1.6%, while domestic new orders increased by 0.6%. The y-o-y drop of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -1.6 p.p., drop by 17.6%), manufacture of basic metals (contribution -1.1 p.p., drop by 13.0%), and manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution -1.1 p.p., drop by 8.5%). The value of new orders increased in manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +3.1 p.p., growth by 9.7%), manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (contribution +0.2 p.p., growth by 14.1%), and manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +0.1 p.p., growth by 1.2%).

The average registered number of employees *) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees decreased in June 2013 by 1.5%, y-o-y. Their average monthly nominal wage increased in June 2013 by 0.5%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 26 202.

According to the Eurostat news release published in May 2013, working day adjusted industrial production in the EU27 decreased by 1.6%, y-o-y. Data for June 2013 will be released by Eurostat on 13 August 2013 at 11 a.m.

Industry in the Q2 2013

Industrial production in the Q2 2013 decreased by 2.4%, y-o-y. Compared to the Q1 2013, seasonally adjusted industrial production was by 0.3% lower.

Sales from industrial activity at current prices were by 0.6% lower, y-o-y, in the Q2 2013. Direct export sales of industrial enterprises increased at current prices by 3.4%. Domestic sales, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises decreased at current prices by 4.6%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities decreased by 0.5%, y-o-y, in the Q2 2013. Non-domestic new orders decreased by 0.6%, while domestic new orders decreased by 0.4%.

The average registered number of employees * ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees decreased in the Q2 2013 by 1.5%, y-o-y. Their average monthly nominal wage increased in the Q2 2013 by 1.8%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 27 164.

*) The registered number of employees indicator does not include persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, however, not within the industry.
