Production slightly decreased, m-o-m

In March 2013, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 6.0%, year-on-year; working day adjusted decreased by 2.1%. Compared to the previous month, seasonally adjusted industrial production was lower by 0.2%. The value of new orders decreased by 1.8%, y-o-y.

In March 2013, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 6.0%, y-o-y; working day adjusted decreased by 2.1%, y-o-y. March 2013 had 1 working day less compared to March 2012. After seasonal adjustment (including working days adjustment) industrial production was lower by 0.2%, month-on-month. The following contributed the most to the y-o-y decrease of industrial production: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution -2.8 p.p., decrease by 15.4%), manufacture of rubber and plastic products (contribution -0.6 p.p., drop by 8.9%), and manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (contribution -0.5 p.p., drop by 13.5%). Industrial production increased the most in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (contribution +0.4 p.p., growth by 2.5%), manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (contribution +0.2 p.p., growth by 21.8%) and manufacture of food products (contribution +0.1%, growth by 3.1%).

Sales from industrial activity at current prices decreased by 3.8%, y-o-y, in March 2013. Direct export sales of industrial enterprises decreased at current prices by 2.1%. Domestic sales, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises decreased at current prices by 5.5%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities decreased by 1.8%, y-o-y, in March 2013. Non-domestic new orders increased by 0.9%, while domestic new orders decreased by 6.7%. The y-o-y decrease of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution -1.7 p.p., drop by 4.8%), manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -1.0 p.p., drop by 10.9%), and manufacture of basic metals (contribution -0.7 p.p., drop by 9.1%). The value of new orders increased in manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution +1.0 p.p., growth by 60.3%), manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution +0.5 p.p., growth by 5.1%), and manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +0.4 p.p., growth by 3.5%).

The average registered number of employees * ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees decreased in March 2013 by 1.3%, y-o-y. Their average monthly nominal wage increased in March 2013 by 0.9%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 26 848.

According to the Eurostat news release published in February 2013, working day adjusted industrial production in the EU27 decreased by 2.5%, y-o-y. Data for March 2013 will be released by Eurostat on 14 May 2013 at 11 a.m.

Industry in the first quarter of 2013

In the Q1 2013, industrial production decreased by 5.4%, y-o-y; working days adjusted industrial production decreased by 2.7%. There were 2 working days and 1 calendar day less in the Q1 2013 compared to the Q1 2012. Compared to the Q4 2012, seasonal adjusted industrial production was by 1.2% higher.

Sales from industrial activity at current prices decreased by 4.6%, y-o-y, in the Q1 2013. Direct export sales of industrial enterprises at current prices decreased by 3.0%. Domestic sales which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises decreased by 6.1% at current prices.

New orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities decreased by 6.6%, y-o-y, in the Q1 2013. Non-domestic new orders decreased by 5.8%, while domestic new orders decreased by 7.9%.

The average registered number of employees * ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees decreased by 1.3%, y-o-y, in the Q1 2013. Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 0.8%, y-o-y, in the Q1 2013 and reached CZK 25 799.

*) The registered number of employees indicator does not include persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, however, not within the industry.
