Industrial growth pulled by foreign demand

In March 2011, industrial production increased at constant prices by 9.5%, year-on-year. Seasonally adjusted industrial production was lower by 0.9%, month-on-month. The value of new orders grew by 9.7%, year-on-year.

In March 2011, industrial production increased at constant prices by 9.5%, year-on-year. Seasonally adjusted industrial production decreased by 0.9%, m-o-m. The year-on-year growth in industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +3.8 percentage points, growth by 21.5%), manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +1.4 p.p., growth by 17.1%), and manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +1.3 p.p., growth +16.4%). The deepest decline of industrial production was recorded in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (contribution -0.5 p.p., drop by 5.0%), manufacture of food products (contribution -0.2 p.p., drop by 4.5%), and manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (contribution -0.1 p.p., drop by 15.8%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices increased by 10.7%, year-on-year. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 19.5%. Domestic revenues, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 3.0%, y-o-y.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 9.7%, y-o-y. Non-domestic new orders grew by 18.9%, while domestic new orders decreased by 4.6%. The y-o-y growth of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +4.0 p.p., growth by 13.0%), manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +1.9 p.p., growth by 16.7%), and manufacture of basic metals (contribution +1.4 p.p., growth by 17.8%). The value of new orders decreased in manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution -0.4 p.p., drop by 2.7%) and manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (contribution -0.3 p.p., drop by 19.9%).

The average registered number of employees* ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees increased in March 2011 by 4.2%, year-on-year. Their average monthly nominal wage increased in March 2011 by 4.5%, year-on-year, and reached CZK 25 990.

Industry in the first quarter of 2011

In Q1 2011 industrial production increased by 12.7%, y-o-y; WDA industrial production increased by 11.7%. There was 1 working day more in Q1 2011 compared to Q1 2010. The y-o-y growth of industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +4.9 p.p., growth by 27.3%), manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +1.8 p.p., growth by 23.0%), and manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +1.5 p.p., growth by 20.0%). The deepest decline of industrial production was in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (contribution -0.5 p.p., drop by 4.1%), manufacture of food products (contribution -0.1 p.p., drop by 2.6%), and manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials (contribution -0.05 p.p., drop by 1.8%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices increased by 12.9%, y-o-y, in Q1 2011. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 21.8%, y-o-y, in Q1 2011. Domestic revenues, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 5.3%, y-o-y, in Q1 2011.

The average registered number of employees* ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees increased by 4.1%, y-o-y, in Q1 2011. Their average monthly nominal wage rose by 4.2%, y-o-y, in Q1 2011 and reached CZK 24 643.

New orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 13.2%, y-o-y, in Q1 2011. Non-domestic new orders increased by 20.0% in Q1 2011, while domestic new orders grew only by 2.2%.

According to the Eurostat news release published in February 2011, WDA industrial production in the EU27 increased by 7.0%, y-o-y. Data for March 2011 will be released by Eurostat on 12 May 2011 at 11:00 a.m.

Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, however, not within the industry.
