Average wage exceeded CZK19 thousand in 2005

In Q4 2005, the average gross monthly nominal wage was CZK 20 841, which is 4.8% higher year-on-year, real wage grew by 2.3%. In the business sphere average wage rose by 4.9%, in the non-business sphere by 4.5%.
In 2005, average wage increased by 5.5% and reached CZK 19 030, real wage rose by 3.5%.

Q4 2005

In Q4 2005, the seasonally adjusted average gross monthly wage per actual person was 1.4% up on Q3 2005 (nominal terms).

The average gross monthly nominal wage (hereinafter referred to as the ‘average wage’ only) amounted to CZK 20 841, and was higher by CZK 951 (4.8%) than in the corresponding period of 2004. Consumer prices in Q4 2005 compared to the same period of 2004 rose by 2.4%, with the real wage rising by 2.3%. Average wage rose by CZK 962 (4.9%) to CZK 20 646 in the business sphere, with the real wage rising by 2.4%. In the non-business sphere, the average wage rose by CZK 922 (4.5%) to CZK 21 499, with the real wage rising by 2.1%.

Wage development in the non-business sphere was influenced by adjustments to the pay of employees in public services and administration as of 1 January 2005 (see the CZSO’s analysis for details).

Year 2005

In 2005, the average wage reached CZK 19 030, rising by CZK 995 (+5.5%) year-on-year, which is historically the lowest growth since the formation of the independent Czech Republic. Consumer prices rose by 1.9% and the real wage by 3.5% in the same period, which is the lowest growth since 2000. The business sphere saw its average wage grow by CZK 937(+5.2%) to CZK 19 053, with the real wage rising by 3.2%. In the non-business sphere, the average wage went up by CZK 1 192 (+6.7%) to CZK 18 954 and an increase of 4.7% was recorded for the real wage.

In 2005, wage differences between industries became wider compared to the corresponding period in 2004. The variation coefficient of average wages (by CZ-NACE division) grew by 1.7 percentage points to 35.1%.

The lowest relative growth of nominal wages was recorded in the following kinds of activities (CZ-NACE sections): hotels and restaurants (+3.0%), wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles and personal household goods (+3.8%), and fishing (+4.0%). The highest relative growth occurred in public administration and defence, compulsory social security (+8.9%), real estate, renting and business activities (+8.0%), and electricity, gas and water supply (+6.9%). The highest nominal wage (financial intermediation) was almost three times the lowest nominal wage (hotels and restaurants).

The highest average wages are paid in the long run in internationally owned companies (CZK 23 814), and the lowest are recorded for entities owned by cooperatives (CZK 12 658).
