Code: r-9101-13

Sales in retail trade including the automotive segment after seasonal adjustment decreased in September by 0.7% at constant prices, month-on-month. Working days adjusted sales increased by 0.5%, year-on-year. Non-adjusted sales increased by 3.7%, y-o-y (September 2013 had 2 working days more than September 2012). Sale of motor vehicles including spare parts continued to grow.

Seasonally adjusted sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles decreased in September at constant prices by 0.7%, month-on-month. Working days adjusted sales increased by 0.5%, year-on-year. Non-adjusted sales increased by 3.7%, y-o- y. The development was related, among others, to a higher number of working days in September 2013 compared to September 2012 (+2). The y-o-y sales increase was contributed to more by the automotive segment (2.6 p.p.) than retail trade alone (1.1 p.p.), see Table 2.

Seasonally adjusted sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) decreased by 0.8% at constant prices, m-o-m. Year-on-year, working days adjusted sales increased by 3.3%. Year-on-year, non-adjusted sales increased by 9.5%; for sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) they increased by 10.1% and for repairs they grew by 7.0%.

In retail trade including sale of automotive fuel (CZ-NACE 47) seasonally adjusted sales at constant prices decreased by 0.6%, m-o-m. Working days adjusted sales reported the same decrease, y-o-y. Non-adjusted sales increased by 1.5%, y-o-y; for non-food goods they increased by 5.1%, while for the automotive fuel and food they dropped (-6,8% and -0,3%, respectively).

What contributed the most to the increment of retail sales in total was the retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet, which has recorded the fastest growth, too (+29.3%). The overall growth was also contributed to by sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores (sales growth by 13.5%), sale of clothing and footwear in specialised stores (+6.2%), retail sale of cultural and recreation goods in specialised stores (+5.9%), and retail sale of other household equipment in specialised stores (+3.2%). On the contrary, negative influence on the overall results of retail trade came from the afore-mentioned sale of the automotive fuel, food in both specialised and non-specialised stores (drop of sales by 2.5% and 0.2%, respectively) as well as sale of dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles in specialised stores (-1.3%).

The price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) related to the corresponding period of the previous year (VAT excluded) was 99.1%. The highest y-o-y growth of prices was recorded for food and dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles, while in most of non-food goods decreasing of prices continued, which was the most marked in the assortment of information and communication equipment.

For the entire third quarter of 2013, sales in retail trade including the automotive segment increased at constant prices by 2.5%, y-o-y (there were 3 working days more in the Q3 2013 than in the Q3 2012); in the automotive segment it was by 8.1% and in the retail trade alone (including sale of automotive fuel) by 0.3%. Non-food sales increased by 2.5%, while sales for automotive fuel and food decreased (-5.5% and -0.2%, respectively).
