Longer February influenced sale in retail trade

In February, sales in retail trade including automotive segment after seasonal adjustment decreased by 0.2% at constant prices, month-on-month. Working days and calendar effects adjusted sales decreased by 1.6%, year-on-year. Non-adjusted sales increased by 1.6%, y-o-y, which was contributed to mainly by a higher number of working and calendar days and sale in the automotive segment.

After seasonal adjustment sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles decreased by 0.2% at constant prices in February, m-o-m; working days and calendar effects adjusted sales decreased by 1.6%, year-on-year. The y-o-y increase of non-adjusted sales by 1.6% was influenced mainly by a higher number of working and calendar days (+1) and sale of motor vehicles (see Table 2).

Seasonally adjusted sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) increased by 1.4% at constant prices, m-o-m; in the year-on-year comparison, adjusted for working days by 0.4%. Non-adjusted sales increased by 3.5%, y-o-y; for sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) increased by 3.7% and for maintenance and repair of motor vehicles by 2.0%.

In retail sale including sale of automotive fuel (CZ-NACE 47) seasonally adjusted sales at constant prices decreased by 0.9%, m-o-m; working days adjusted sales decreased by 2.6%, y-o-y. Non-adjusted sales increased by 0.7%, y-o-y; for sale of non-food goods increased by 2.1%, while for automotive fuel and food dropped by 0.9% and 0.4%, respectively.

The highest growth of sales was at retail sale of cultural and recreation goods in specialised stores (+9.4%) and retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores (+8.5%). Successful was also retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods in specialised stores (+3.8%), retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (+3.4%), and sale of dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles in specialised stores (+2.8%). Besides the above-mentioned sale of automotive fuel, sales decreased in retail sale in non-specialised stores by 0.9% (retail sale in non-specialised stores with food, beverages or tobacco predominating dropped by 0.5%) and in retail sale of other household equipment in specialised stores (-0.1%).

The price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) related to the corresponding period of the previous year (VAT excluded) was 102.1% and it was influenced mainly by higher prices of automotive fuel and food. On the contrary, the deepest price falls were in retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores.
