Retail sales in 2013 increased by 1.0%
In December 2013 sales in retail trade, including the automotive segment, after seasonal adjustment decreased by 1.2% at constant prices, month-on-month. Working days adjusted sales increased by 3.6%, year-on-year. The non-adjusted sales increase by 5.2%, y-o-y, was the most contributed to by the sale and repair of motor vehicles and non-food goods.
For the whole year 2013 retail sales, including the automotive segment, increased by 1.0% at constant prices, y-o-y.
Seasonally adjusted sales in retail trade, including sale and repair of motor vehicles, decreased in December 2013 at constant prices by 1.2%, month-on-month. Working days adjusted sales increased by 3.6%, year-on-year. The non-adjusted sales increase by 5.2%, y-o-y; was influenced, along with a higher number of working days (+1), by a growth of sale and repair of motor vehicles (+3.8 percentage point (p.p.)) and non-food goods (+2.0 p.p.), and, on the contrary, sale of automotive fuel (-0.4 p.p.) and food (-0.2 p.p.) had the opposite effect, see Table 2.
Seasonally adjusted sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) decreased by 0.1% at constant prices, m-o-m. Year-on-year, working days adjusted these sales increased by 13.5%. Year-on-year, non-adjusted sales increased by 16.8%; for sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) they increased by 17.4% and for repairs by 15.1%.
In retail trade, including sale of automotive fuel (CZ-NACE 47), seasonally adjusted sales at constant prices decreased by 1.2%, m-o-m. Working days adjusted sales increased by 0.7%, y-o-y. Non-adjusted sales increased by 1.8%, y-o-y, due to a higher sale of non-food goods (by 4.7%), while, conversely, sales for automotive fuel and for food dropped (by 5.2% and by 0.6%, respectively).
A growth of retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (by 34.2%) was the highest. Consumers were still more interested in purchases in specialised stores of computer and communication equipment (sales increased by 8.9%). The total increase was also contributed by retail sales of other household equipment (by 3.0%), of clothing and footwear (by 1.2%), and of cultural and recreation goods (by 0.2%). Conversely, lower retail sales were recorded in stores dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles (by 3.6%) and specialised as well as non-specialized stores with food, beverages or tobacco (by 1.3% and by 0.5%, respectively).
The price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) related to the corresponding period of the previous year (VAT excluded) was 99.5%. For most of non-food goods a decrease of prices continued, which was the most marked in the assortment of information and communication equipment. On the contrary, the highest y-o-y growth of prices was recorded in food stores and retail sale of automotive fuel and clothing and footwear in specialised stores.
For the whole Q4 2013 sales in retail trade, including sale and repair of motor vehicles , increased at constant prices by 3.6%, y-o-y (Q4 2013 was by one working day shorter). If decomposed sale and repair of motor vehicles grew by 10.3% and the rest of retail segment, including sale of automotive fuel, increased by 1.1%. Sales for non-food goods increased by 2.9% and, on the contrary, those for automotive fuel and for food decreased (by 2.6% and by 0.2%, respectively).
Development in 2013
For the entire year 2013, sales in retail trade, including the automotive segment (CZ-NACE 45+47), increased at constant prices by 1.0%, y-o-y. The overall development was mostly affected by an increase in the automotive segment.
In the segment of sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) sales increased at constant prices by 3.7%, y-o-y; for repairs for sale of motor vehicles they rose by 4.3% and repairs saw increase by 1.6%.
In retail sale , including sale of automotive fuel (CZ-NACE 47) , sales at constant prices decreased by 0.1% , y-o-y; while a decline was recorded in the first half of the year yet the second half was dominated by a growth. Sales for automotive fuel decreased for the entire year by 3.0%. A drop of food sale continued also in 2013 (for the entire year by 1.1%). Sales of non-food goods increased by 1.5%. The biggest growth was recorded by retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (by 26.8%). In specialised stores, the biggest growing were sales for information and communication equipment (by 8.8%), clothing and footwear (by 3.3%), cultural and recreation goods (by 0.5%). On the contrary, retail sale of chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles decreased (by 2.9%) and other household equipment (by 1.3%). The average price deflator for the year 2013 was 99.5%.
