The highest growth of sale via Internet over the last 26 months

In November, seasonally adjusted (SA) sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles decreased month-on-month by 0.3% at constant prices and increased by 3.4% in the year-on-year comparison. The y-o-y increase of seasonally non-adjusted sales by 5.0% was influenced mainly by development in automotive segment and also by a higher number of working days. In retail trade alone, sales increased by 1.2%.

With seasonal, calendar and working day adjustment sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles decreased in November by 0.3%, at constant prices, m-o-m, and increased by 3.4% in the year-on-year comparison (after only working day adjustment by 3.2%). Seasonally non-adjusted sales growth by 5.0%, y-o-y, was influenced mainly by growth of sales in automotive segment, the contribution of which was 4.2 percentage points (see Table 2) as well as by a higher number of working days (+1).

Seasonally adjusted sales in sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) increased by 0.2% at constant prices, m-o-m, and in the year-on-year comparison by 12.0%. Seasonally non-adjusted sales increased by 15.2%, y-o-y, of which for sale of motor vehicles and motorcycles (including spare parts) it was by 16.3%. The third highest increase in 2010 was influenced besides the higher number of working days also by increased sale of trucks and continuing increased sale of tyres. Related to that was also increase of sales for maintenance and repair of motor vehicles by 9.6%, which was the highest since July 2008.

In retail sale including sale of automotive fuel (CZ-NACE 47) seasonally adjusted sales at constant prices decreased by 0.5%, m-o-m, and in the y-o-y comparison they increased by 0.2%. Seasonally non-adjusted sales increased by 1.2%, y-o-y, of which sales for sale of non-food goods increased by 2.6% and sale of food by 1.3%, while sales for sale of automotive fuel decreased by 4.9%.

In a more detailed breakdown, growth was reported especially by retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (+24.0%), retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods in specialised stores (+8.7%), retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores (+6.8%), retail sale of cultural and recreational goods in specialised stores (+5.3%), retail sale in non-specialised stores with food, beverages or tobacco predominating (+1.4%) and retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco in specialised stores (+0.6%). On the contrary, decreasing were sales for retail sale of automotive fuel in specialised stores (-4.9%), other retail sale in non-specialised stores (-4.3%), retail sale via stalls and markets (-3.8%), other retail sale not in stores, stalls or markets (-2.6%) and for retail sale of other household equipment in specialised stores (-1.6%).

The price deflator related to the corresponding period of the previous year was 100.3%. Further price increase was recorded in retail sale of automotive fuel in specialised stores (+11.3%), markedly smaller increase was reported for prices of goods sold in non-specialised stores with food, beverages or tobacco predominating (+1.0%) and in retail sale via stalls and markets (+0.9%). The biggest price drops were reported for prices of information and communication equipment in specialised stores (-7.3%), second-hand goods in stores (-5.3%), clothing, footwear and leather goods in specialised stores (-4.3%) and retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (-4.2%).

In November 2010, according to data released by Eurostat, seasonally adjusted retail sales (CZ-NACE 47) in the EU27 decreased by 0.4% at constant prices, month-on-month; working day adjusted sales increased by 0.8%, year-on-year. The fastest increases were reported for Poland (+11.8%), Latvia (+8.1%), and Estonia (+7.5%), while the deepest fall of sales was reported for Romania (-8.9%), Bulgaria (-5.2%), and Portugal (-4.7%).
