Code: r-9101-12

In July, sales in retail trade including automotive segment after seasonal adjustment decreased by 0.8% at constant prices, month-on-month. Working days adjusted sales decreased by 1.5%, year-on-year. Non-adjusted sales increased by 0.3%, year-on-year, because there were more working days and sales in the automotive segment and non-food goods were growing.

After seasonal adjustment sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles decreased by 0.8% at constant prices in July, m-o-m; working days adjusted sales decreased by 1.5%, year-on-year. Y-o-y growth of non-adjusted sales by 0.3% was influenced by a higher number of working days (+1) in July 2012 compared to July 2011. Increased sales were recorded for sale in the automotive segment and for sale of non-food goods, while food sales decreased, on the contrary (see Table 2).

Seasonally adjusted sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) decreased by 2.0% at constant prices, m-o-m; in the year-on-year comparison, sales adjusted for working days decreased by 2.2%. Non-adjusted sales increased by 0.8%, y-o-y; for the repair of motor vehicles it was by 1.0% up and for sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) it was by 0.8% up.

In retail sale including sale of automotive fuel (CZ-NACE 47) seasonally adjusted sales at constant prices decreased by 0.3%, m-o-m, and sales adjusted for working days by 1.1%, y-o-y. Non-adjusted sales stagnated, y-o-y, although sale of automotive fuel and non-food goods recorded growth (+2.2% and 2.0%, respectively). Sale of food dropped by 3.3% and therefore sales in retail trade were not growing.

Year-on-year, the fastest growing was retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (+13.0%). Sales increased also in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods in specialised stores (+7.7%), retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores (+3.0%), cultural and recreation goods in specialised stores (+2.8%), retail sale of dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles in specialised stores (+1.8%), and retail sale of other household equipment in specialised stores (+0.1%). Stagnation of retail sale was influenced especially by the drop of food sale in both specialised and non-specialised stores (-3.7% and -3.3%, respectively). Sales of food retailers dropped also at current prices by 1.1%.

The price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) related to the corresponding period of the previous year (VAT excluded) was 100.5% and it was influenced mainly by higher prices of automotive fuel and food. On the contrary, cutting of prices continued in retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores.
