Producer price indices - September 2020

Y-o-y decrease of prices of agriculture producers continued for the eleventh month in a row

Agricultural producer prices and service producer prices in the business sphere both went up by 0.8%. Industrial producer prices (+0.2%) and construction work prices (+0.3%) were both higher, month-on-month. From the year-on-year perspective, agricultural producer prices decreased by 3.5% and industrial producer prices fell by 0.4%. Construction work prices (+2.8%) and service producer prices in the business sphere (+1.7%) increased.
 

Month-on-month comparison

Agricultural producer prices rose by 0.8% due to increasing prices of cattle for slaughter by 1.1%. On the decrease were prices of poultry (-3.9%), pigs for slaughter (-2.7%) and cereals
(-0.3%).

Prices of industrial producers increased by 0.2%. Prices rose in ‘transport equipment’ (+1.5%), ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+0.7%) and ‘rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products’ (+0.5%). Price fell particularly in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. On the decrease were also prices in food products, beverages, tobacco’ (-0.4%), there of ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (-1.5%), on the other hand, prices rose in ‘dairy products’ (+1.3%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices grew by 0.3% and prices of construction material and products input went up by 0.5%.

Service producer prices in the business sphere were higher by 0.8%. Prices for ‘advertising and market research services’ (+14.3%), ‘employment services’ (+2.7%) and ‘warehousing and support services for transportation’ (+1.5%) increased. Decreasing were prices of ‘computer programming, consultancy and related services’ by 1.0%. Service producer prices in the business sphere, excluding advertising services remained stable.
 

Year-on-year comparison

Agricultural producer prices dropped by 3.5% (-1.9% in August). Prices in the crop production grew by 1.1%. On the decrease were prices of potatoes (-27.1%), fresh vegetables and cereals (-0.7%) both. Prices of fruit (+22.5%) and oleaginous crops (+8.0%) went up. Prices in animal products fell by 7.2%. Prices of pigs for slaughter (-18.4%), poultry (-7.4%), milk (-4.0%) and cattle for slaughter (-3.3%) were lower. Prices of eggs were higher by 4.0%. 

Prices of industrial producers were lower by 0.4% (-0.5% in August). Prices fell primarily in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. On the decrease were prices in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-10.6%), ‘mining and quarrying’ (-3.7%) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-2.0%). Prices went up in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (+7.7%), thereof ‘electricity, transmission and distribution services’ (+9.0%). Prices increased in ‘transport equipment’ (+2.9%) and also in ‘furniture, other manufactured products’ (+4.5%). Prices rose in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+1.0%), thereof ‘other food products’ (+4.7%), on the other hand, prices fell in ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (-3.0%).

Among the main industrial groupings, lower were prices of ‘energy’ (-2.8%) and ‘intermediate goods’ (-1.8%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices rose by 2.8% (+3.4% in August) and prices for construction material and products input increased by 0.3% (-0.5% in August).

Service producer prices in the business sphere were higher by 1.7% (+2.1% in August). Prices for ‘warehousing and support services for transportation’ (+5.9%), ‘management consulting services’ (+5.0%) and ‘security and investigation services’ (+4.2%) rose. On the increase were also prices of ‘real estate services’ (+3.2%), ‘computer programming, consultancy and related services’ (+3.1%) and ‘employment services’ (+2.0%). Lower were prices of ‘advertising and market research services’ by 3.2%. Service producer prices in the business sphere, excluding advertising services, grew by 2.1% (+2.3% in August).
 

Industrial producer prices in the EU – August 2020 (preliminary data)

According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices increased in August by 0.2% (in July they rose by 0.6%) in EU27, month-on-month. The highest increase was recorded in Estonia (+3.1%). Price were higher in Germany and Austria (+0.1 %). Lower were prices in Slovakia (-0.4%), the Czech Republic (-0.3%) and Poland (-0.2%). The largest decrease was observed in Bulgaria (-0.5%).

Industrial producer prices decreased in August by 2.3% (in July they went down by 2.9%) in EU27, year-on-year. The largest decrease was observed in Lithuania (-6.8%). Price were lower in Austria (-2.3%), Poland (-1.4%), Germany (-1.1%) and the Czech Republic (-0.5%) and remained stable in Slovakia. The highest increase was recorded in Malta (+1.6%).

Agricultural producer price indices: 26th calendar day of reference month / 8th calendar day of the following month

Industrial producer price indices: 20th calendar day of reference month / 9th calendar day of the following month

Service producer prices in the business sphere: 20th calendar day of reference month / 9th calendar day of the following month

Except for the construction work price indices, the published figures are final data. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carried out on the 9th calendar day of the following month. Then, construction work price indices are made more precise using results of the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 46th calendar day of the following quarter.
