Growth of producer prices continued

In February 2011, compared with the previous month, agricultural and industrial producer prices grew by 5.1% and 0.5%, respectively. Construction work prices and market services prices increased by 0.1% and 0.3%, respectively.
In comparison to February 2010, agricultural and industrial producer prices were higher by 29.7% and 5.4%, respectively. Prices of market services were 0.3% up. Construction work prices decreased by 0.3%.

Monthly changes

Agricultural producer prices increased by 5.1% in total. Prices of crop products grew by 8.9%. Higher were prices of cereals (+11.7%), plant oils (+12.0%) and potatoes (+10.1%). Prices of fruit (-7.5%) and vegetables (-4.4%) fell. Prices of animal products increased by 0.4%, higher were prices of milk (+0.1%) and cattle for slaughter and poultry (+2.4% both). In contrast, prices of pigs for slaughter and eggs decreased by 0.7% and 2.4%, respectively.

Prices of industrial producers increased by 0.5% (+1.4% in January). M-o-m growth was influenced the most by the rising prices in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+3.9%), ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+0.9%) and ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+0.5%). Prices went down moderately in ‘transport equipment’ (-0.5%).

According to an estimate, construction work and construction material input prices increased by 0.1% and 0.5%, respectively.

Market services prices in the business sphere grew by 0.3%, affected by price increase in architectural and engineering services and technical consultancy services (+1.2%), financial services, except insurance and pension funding (+1.1%), insurance services (+0.7%) and advertising and market research services (+0.6%). Prices in rental and leasing services fell by 5.0%. Market services prices in total excluding advertising services increased by 0.3%.

Annual changes

Agricultural producer prices were 29.7% up (+23.0% in January). Prices of crop products grew by 53.1%. Considerable increases were registered for prices of cereals (+72.1%), plant oils (+64.2%), potatoes (+78.8%), fruit (+23.2%) and vegetables (+29.5%). Prices of animal products grew (+6.9%), due to higher price of milk (+17.2%). On the increase were prices of poultry (+5.8%) and cattle for slaughter (+4.4%). On the decrease were prices of pigs for slaughter (-1.0%) and eggs (-27.9%). The considerable y-o-y growth was influenced particularly by lower comparative basis from the year of 2010.

Industrial producer prices rose by 5.4% (+4.6% in January). This is the most since September 2008. Prices were higher particularly in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (25.1%), ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+12.4%) and ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+5.0%). The more conspicuous price decrease was observed in ‘transport equipment’ (-4.0%).
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ increased the most (+9.7%); the largest decrease was recorded for ‘capital goods’ (-1.0%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices were down by 0.3% (-0.4% in January). Construction material input prices were 3.2% up (+2.6% in January).

Market services prices in the business sphere were up by 0.3% (+0.1% in January). Increasing were prices in freight transport (+2.0%), financial services, except insurance and pension funding (+2.7%), postal and courier services (+3.1%) and architectural and engineering services and technical consultancy services (+1.7%). Lower prices were recorded in rental and leasing services (-5.4%), insurance services (-2.4%) and computer programming, consultancy and related services (-1.7%). Market services prices excluding advertising services increased for the first time after 12 months by 0.4% in total (-0.2% in January).

Industrial producer prices in the EU – January 2011*

According to the Eurostat News Release, industrial producer prices in the EU27 increased by 1.4% in January (+1.2% in December), month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in Spain (+2.4%), the Netherlands (+2.1%), Belgium and Portugal (+1.9% both). Prices rose in the Czech Republic (+1.4%), Germany (+1.2%), Slovakia (+1.0%) and in Poland (+0.8%). In Austria, data are not available for January (+0.7% in December). Decreases were observed in Sweden (-1.3%), Denmark (-0.5%) and Cyprus (-0.1%).

EU27 producer prices rose by 6.5% in January (+5.9% in December), year-on-year. The largest increases were observed in Bulgaria (+11.1%), Lithuania and the Netherlands (+10.3% both). Prices rose in Poland (+7.3%), Germany (+5.5%), the Czech Republic (+4.6%) and Slovakia (+1.9%). In Austria, data are not available for January (+5.4% in December). There was none y-o-y price decrease in states of EU27.
