Y-o-y growth of agricultural producer prices stopped after thirteen months

In August 2013 compared with the previous month, agricultural producer prices were lower by 4.7% and prices of industrial producer fell by 0.1%. Construction work prices stayed unchanged and prices of market services were higher by 0.1%.
In comparison to August 2012, prices of agricultural producer decreased by 0.2%. Prices of construction works and market services prices were both lower by 1.4% and 2.1%, respectively. Prices of industrial producer grew by 0.5%.

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were lower by 4.7%. Prices of fruit decreased by 16.0%, as well as cereals (-14.1%), fresh vegetables (-10.1%), early potatoes (-6.2%) and eggs (-4.1%). Prices of pigs for slaughter increased (+4.2%).

Prices of industrial producers went down by 0.1% m-o-m. Prices fell primarily in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ and ‘transport equipment’ (-0.5% both). Prices rose in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ and ‘mining and quarrying’ (+0.5% both). Prices increased in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+0.1%), thereof ‘preserved meat and meat products’ and ‘dairy products’ (+1.2% both), on the other hand on the decrease were ‘vegetable and animal oils and fats’ (-12.1%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices stayed unchanged and construction material input prices went down by 0.4%.

Market services prices in the business sphere increased by 0.1%. Prices of ‘postal and courier services’ grew by 7.6%, thereof prices in ‘postal services under universal service obligation’ went up by 14.3%. Market services prices in total excluding advertising services also grew by 0.1%.

Year-on-year comparison:

After thirteen months of growth, agricultural producer prices went down by 0.2% (in July were higher by 4.7%). Prices of crop products fell by 6.5% (in July grew by 4.2%), thereof cereals
(-10.4%), oil plants (-5.5%) and fruit (-1.4%). Higher were prices of potatoes (+87.7%) and fresh vegetables (+30.0%). Prices of animal products increased by 7.6%. On the increase were prices of milk (+15.4%), poultry (+8.4%) and pigs for slaughter (+7.2%). Prices of eggs went down by 23.1%.
Industrial producer prices gained 0.5% (+1.1% in July). Price level was significantly influenced by the higher prices in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (+3.6%) and ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+3.7%). Prices rose in ‘dairy products’ (+11.5%), ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+4.4%) and ‘prepared animal feeds’ (+9.5%). Prices decreased in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (-6.1%), ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-2.2%) and ‘rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products’ (-1.1%).
Among the main industrial groupings prices of ‘non-durable consumer goods’ (+2.3%) increased the most, decreased only prices of ‘intermediate goods’ (-0.5%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices went down by 1.4% (like in July) and construction material input prices fell by 0.7% (like in July).

Market services prices in the business sphere decreased by 2.1% (-2.2% in July). On the decrease were prices of ‘telecommunication services’ (-21.0%), ‘storage’ (-19.8%), ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ (-4.5%) and ‘legal and accounting services’ (-1.3%). Increasing were prices in ‘postal and courier services’ (+8.3%) and prices of ‘advertising and market research services’ (+4.1%). Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased by 2.8% (-2.9% in July).

Industrial producer prices in the EU – July 2013*

According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices increased by 0.4% in July (remained stable in June), month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest increases in the total index were recorded in the United Kingdom (+1.9%), Greece (+0.9%), the Netherlands and France (+0.7% both). Prices rose in Poland and Austria (+0.3% both) and in the Czech Republic (+0.2%). Prices remained stable in Germany and Bulgaria. The largest decreases were observed in Estonia (-5.0%), Slovakia (-0.5%) and Cyprus (-0.4%).

EU28 producer prices rose by 0.7% in June (+0.6% in July), year-on-year. The highest increases in the total index were observed in Estonia (+8.4%), Denmark (+5.1%) and the United Kingdom (+4.4%). Prices rose in the Czech Republic (+1.1%) and Germany (+0.6%). The largest decreases were recorded in Cyprus (-2.3%), Bulgaria (-1.8%) and Lithuania (-1.4%). Prices decreased in Poland (-0.9%), Austria (-0.8%) and Slovakia (-0.6%).
