Prices of market services increased y-o-y after fourteen months

In May 2014 compared with the previous month, agricultural producer prices grew by 0.2%. Prices of industrial producer, construction work prices and prices of market services stayed unchanged. In comparison to May 2013, prices of agricultural producer decreased by 0.7%. Prices of industrial producer were lower by 0.1%. Construction works prices and prices of market services were both higher by 0.5% and 0.4%, respectively.

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices went up by 0.2%. Prices of fresh vegetables increased by 5.9%, as well as oil plants (+3.0%), cereals (+2.5%), pigs for slaughter (+2.2%) and poultry (+1.4%). Prices of eggs (-4.9%), fruit (-5.0%) and potatoes (-6.4%) decreased.

Prices of industrial producers remained stable in total. Prices rose in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+0.6%) and ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+0.5%). ‘Food products, beverages, tobacco’ rose by 0.2%, thereof ‘beverages’ (+0.6%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+0.5%). Prices went down in ‘mining and quarrying’ (-0.9%) and ‘electrical equipments’ (-0.4%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices stayed unchanged and construction material input prices fell by 0.3%.

Market services prices in the business sphere stayed unchanged. Increasing were prices of ‘advertising and market research services’ (+0.1%). On the decrease were prices of ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ (-0.2%). Market services prices excluding advertising services stayed unchanged again.

Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices went down by 0.7% (-2.8% in April). Prices of crop products fell by 7.7%, thereof cereals (-15.6%), fresh vegetables (-13.7%) and oil plants (-4.6%). Higher were prices of potatoes (+26.0%) and fruit (+10.1%). Prices of animal products went up by 8.7% due to increasing prices of milk (+19.2%). On the decrease were prices of cattle for slaughter
(-2.1%). Prices of poultry and eggs were both lower by 1.4%.

Industrial producer prices decreased by 0.1% (-0.3% in April). The price decreasing in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (-8.6%) and ‘mining and quarrying’ (-4.6%) influenced the most significantly the total price level. Prices increased in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+5.2%) and ‘transport equipment’ (+3.5%), thereof ‘parts and accessories for motor vehicles’ (+4.6%). Prices rose in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+2.0%) and ‘wood, wood products, paper, printing’ (+4.1%). Prices were higher in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+0.7%), thereof ‘dairy products’ (+10.1%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+2.8%). On the other hand, lower prices were in ‘vegetable and animal oils and fats’ (-15.3%), ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (-12.0%) and ‘prepared animal feeds’ (-8.2%).
Among the main industrial groupings prices of ‘energy’ (-4.4%) decreased the most, y-o-y.

According to an estimate, construction work prices increased by 0.5% (+0.4% in April) and construction material input prices grew by 0.8% (+1.2% in April).

Prices of market services in the business sphere for the first time in fourteen months increased by 0.4% (-0.5% in April). On the decrease were prices of ‘telecommunication services’ (-6.2%) and ‘advertising and market research services’ (-3.0%). Increasing were prices in ‘postal and courier services’ (+8.2%), prices of ‘financial services, except insurance and pension funding’ (+3.2%), prices of ‘insurance services’ (+2.8%) and prices of ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ (+1.2%). Market services prices excluding advertising services increased by 0.6% (-0.4% in April).

Industrial producer prices in the EU – April 2014*

According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices went down in April by 0.1% (-0.2% in March) in EU28, month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases were observed in Malta (-2.3%), Belgium (-1.5%) and Sweden (-0.6%). Prices were lower in Slovakia (-0.3%), Poland (-0.2%), Germany (-0.1%) and remained stable in the Czech Republic and Austria. The highest increases were recorded in Romania (+1.7%), Greece (+1.3%) and Latvia (+0.7%).

Industrial producer prices decreased in April by1.1% (-1.6% in March) in EU28, year-on-year.
Prices went down the most in Belgium (-5.1%), Cyprus (-4.7%), Estonia and Slovakia (-4.6% both). Prices were lower in Austria (-1.5%), Germany (-0.9%), Poland (-0.5%), and the Czech Republic (-0.3%). Prices increased only in Romania (+1.1%), Greece (+0.8%), Spain and Latvia (+0.1% both).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
