Producer price indices - July 2013

The deceleration of the y-o-y growth of agricultural producer prices continued

In July 2013 compared with the previous month, industrial producer prices were higher by 0.2%. Prices of agricultural producer, construction works and market services were lower by 2.1%, 0.1% and 1.0%, respectively.
In comparison to July 2012, prices of agricultural and industrial producer prices increased by 4.7% and 1.1%, respectively. Construction works prices decreased by 1.4% and market services prices by 2.2%.

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were lower by 2.1%. Prices of potatoes decreased by 12.4%, as well as oil plants (-7.2%), cereals (-5.0%) and fresh vegetables (-6.4%). Prices of fruit (+20.2%) and pigs for slaughter (+4.1%) increased.

Prices of industrial producers went up by 0.2% m-o-m. The growth was influenced by the higher prices in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+2.4%). Prices increased also in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+0.5%), thereof ‘beverages’ (+0.9%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+0.6%). Prices decreased in ‘mining and quarrying’ (-1.7%), thereof primarily in ‘coal and lignite’ (-2.3%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices and construction material input prices went down by 0.1% and 0.2%.

Market services prices in the business sphere decreased by 1.0% due to the lower prices in ‘advertising and market research services’ (-11.2%) and ‘employment services’ (-3.6%). Market services prices in total excluding advertising services fell by 0.1%.

Year-on-year comparison:

The growth of agricultural producer prices decelerated to 4.7% (+7.3% in June). Prices of crop products grew by 4.2% (+10.4% in June), thereof potatoes (+30.4%), fresh vegetables (+20.6%) and cereals (+7.3%). Lower were prices of fruit (-8.8%) and oil plants (-6.0%). Prices of animal products increased by 5.3%. On the increase were prices of milk (+12.4%) and poultry (+8.3%). Prices of eggs went down by 21.8%.

Industrial producer prices gained 1.1% (+0.7% in June). Price level was significantly influenced by the price increasing in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+4.0%). Prices were higher primarily in ‘dairy products’ (+10.0%), ‘prepared animal feeds’ (+15.6%), ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+3.3%), ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (+11.3%) and ‘vegetable and animal oils and fats’ (+11.5%). Also the growth in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (+3.6%) influenced the price level identically significantly. Prices decreased in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-2.5%) and ‘rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products’ (-1.5%).

Among the main industrial groupings prices of ‘energy’ (+2.5%) increased the most.

According to an estimate, construction work prices went down by 1.4% (like in June after the specification) and construction material input prices fell by 0.7% (-0.5% in June).

Market services prices in the business sphere decreased by 2.2% (-2.5% in June). On the decrease were prices of ‘telecommunication services’ (-21.0%), ‘storage’ (-19.8%), ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ (-3.6%) and ‘legal and accounting services’ (-1.3%). Increasing were prices in ‘advertising and market research services’ (+4.5%) and prices of ‘insurance’ (+1.9%). Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased by 2.9% (-2.7% in June).

Industrial producer prices in the EU – June 2013*

According to the Eurostat News Releases industrial producer prices in the EU27 remained stable in June (-0.3% in May), month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, prices remained stable in Germany, Spain, Cyprus, Romania, Slovenia and Finland. The highest increases in the total index were observed in Estonia (+6.7%), on the other hand the largest decrease was in Lithuania (-0.8%). Prices rose in Poland (+0.3%) and the Czech Republic (+0.1%) and decreased in Austria (-0.3%) and Slovakia (-0.2%).

EU27 producer prices increased in June by 0.6% (-0.1% in May), year-on-year. The highest increases were recorded in Estonia (+14.2%), Romania (+4.9%) and Denmark (+3.6%). Prices increased in the Czech Republic (+0.7%) and Germany (+0.6%). The largest decreases were in Cyprus (-2.1%), Poland (-1.3%) and Sweden (-1.2%). Prices decreased in Austria (-1.1%) and Slovakia (-0.3%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
