Producer price indices - July 2010

M-o-m industrial producer prices remained stable

In July 2010, agricultural producer prices increased by 0.5%. Market services prices fell by 0.8%. Construction work prices and industrial producer prices stayed unchanged.
In comparison to July 2009, agricultural producer prices, construction work prices and market services prices were lower by 0.6%, 0.2% and 1.2%, respectively. Industrial producer prices increased by 2.3%.

Monthly changes

Agricultural producer prices increased by 0.5% in total. Prices of crop products fell by 0.6%. Lower were prices of potatoes (-18.7%) and fruit (-13.2%). Prices of vegetables and cereals grew by 24.7% and 1.7%, respectively. Prices of animal products increased by 1.9%. Increases were recorded for prices of pigs for slaughter (+6.0%), milk (+0.8%) and poultry (+0.7%). Prices of eggs stayed unchanged, prices of cattle for slaughter fell by 0.6%.

Industrial producer prices remained stable (+0.5% in June). Prices went up the most significantly in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+1.4%) and ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ (+0.7%). Prices decreased the most in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-3.1%), ‘transport equipments’ (-1.0%), ‘coke, refined petroelum products’ and ‘PC, electronic and optical equipments’ (-0.9% both).

According to an estimate, construction work prices stayed unchanged, construction material input prices increased by 0.2%.

Market services prices in the business sphere fell by 0.8%, affected by price decrease of 6.2% in advertising and market research services. Price increases were also registered in financial intermediation (+1.6%) and telecommunications services (-0.8%). Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased in total by 0.2%.

Annual changes

Agricultural producer prices were down by 0.6% (-2.7% in June). Prices of crop products fell by 5.5%. Decreases were registered for prices of potatoes (-14.2%) and cereals (-6.3%). On the other hand, increases were registered for prices of vegetables (+43.7%) and fruit (+9.5%). Animal products prices grew (+5.0%), due to higher price in milk (+22.9%). On the decrease were prices of cattle for slaughter (-1.9%), poultry (-2.3%), pigs for slaughter (-8.6%) and eggs (-11.8%).

Industrial producer prices increased by 2.3% (+2.0% in June). Prices rose the most in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+33.3%), ‘mining and quarrying’ (+9.1%) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+8.4%). Prices went down the most significantly in ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ (-2.2%) of these the most ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (-12.3%). Prices of ‘transport equipment’ decreased by 3.0%.
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ increased the most (+7.5%); the largest decrease was recorded for ‘non-durable consumer goods’ (-2.2%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices were down by 0.2% (like in June). Construction material input prices were up by 2.2% (+2.0% in June).

Market services prices in the business sphere were down by 1.2% (-1.5% in June). Decreasing were prices in advertising and market research services (-4.0%), real estate services (-1.7%) and telecommunications services (-3.0%). Higher prices were recorded in employment services (+9.6%). Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased by 0.8%.

Industrial producer prices in the EU – June 2010*

According to the Eurostat News Release, industrial producer prices in the EU27 increased by 0.2% in June (+0.3% in May), month-on-month. Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in Latvia (+1.9%), Greece and Hungary (both +0.9%). Prices rose in Slovakia (+0.7%) and in Germany (+0.6%). Decreases were observed in Ireland (-1.1%), Denmark (-0.6%), the United Kingdom (-0.5%), Malta and Portugal (-0.1% both).

EU27 producer prices rose by 3.5% in June (+3.8% in May), year-on-year. The largest increases were observed in Malta (+16.9%), Hungary (+9.1%), Finland (+6.5%) and Greece (+6.1%). Prices in Germany rose by 1.5%. The only decrease was observed in Slovakia (-1.9%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the data are finalised. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
