Prices of producers decreased month-on-month

In June 2011, compared with the previous month, prices of agricultural producers and market services fell by 0.5% and 0.7%, respectively. Prices of industrial producers and construction work decreased both by 0.2%.
In comparison to June 2010, agricultural and industrial producer prices were higher by 27.1% and 5.5%, respectively. Prices of market services were 1.0% up. Construction work prices decreased by 0.4%.

Monthly changes

After fifteen months of continuing growth, agricultural producer prices fell by 0.5% in total. Prices of crop products decreased by 1.1%. Lower were prices of cereals (-0.4%), oil plants (-1.9%), fruit (-6.1%) and vegetables (-21.8%). Prices of potatoes (+1.3%) grew. Prices of animal products increased by 0.3%, higher were prices of pigs for slaughter (+1.3%), poultry (+0.8%) and milk (+0.2%). In contrast, prices of cattle for slaughter and eggs decreased by 0.1% and 7.0%, respectively.

Prices of industrial producers decreased by 0.2% (+0.5% in May). After seven months of growth, a drop of price level was influenced particularly by the price decreasing in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (-1.7%), ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-2.1%) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-0.3%). Prices went up in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+0.4%) and ‘rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products’ (+0.6%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices decreased by 0.2%; construction material input prices grew by 0.6%.

Market services prices in the business sphere decreased by 0.7%, affected by a 5.7% price drop in advertising and market research services. Also prices of real estate services decreased by 0.4%. Market services prices in total excluding advertising services stayed unchanged.


Annual changes

Agricultural producer prices were 27.1% up (+31.5% in May). Prices of crop products grew by 45.7%, due to higher prices of cereals (+82.8%) and oil plants (+48.9%). The prices of potatoes and fruit were higher (+13.2% and 11.8%, respectively). The prices of vegetables decreased (-23.9%). Prices of animal products grew (+8.0%), due to higher price of milk (+13.3%) and poultry (+11.6%). On the increase were prices of cattle for slaughter (+3.8%) and pigs for slaughter (+3.4%). Prices of eggs were down (-22.0%). The considerable y-o-y growth was influenced particularly by lower comparative basis from the year of 2010.

Industrial producer prices gained 5.5% (+6.2% in May). Total index was the most significantly influenced by the higher prices in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+10.0%), ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+17.7%) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+8.1%). Prices went down primarily in ‘transport equipment’ (-3.9%), y-o-y.
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ increased the most (+8.4%), the decrease was recorded only in ‘capital goods’ (-0.8%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices were 0.4% down (-0.3% in May). Construction material input prices were 2.6% up (+2.9% in May).

Market services prices in the business sphere were 1.0% up (+1.2% in May). Increasing were especially prices in advertising and market research services (+7.6%). On the increase were prices of postal and courier services (+3.6%), freight transport services (+2.0%) and financial services, except insurance and pension funding (+2.4%). Lower prices were recorded in rental and leasing services (-6.1%), insurance services (-2.4%) and telecommunication services (-1.1%). Market services prices excluding advertising services increased by 0.2% in total (+0.3% in May).


Industrial producer prices in the EU – May 2011*

According to the Eurostat News Release, industrial producer prices in the EU27 decreased by 0.3% in May (+1.0% in April), month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest decreases were observed in Greece (-1.4%), Sweden and the United Kingdom (-1.1% both) and France (-0.5%). The highest increases were recorded in Cyprus (+1.8%), Latvia (+1.3%), Ireland and Lithuania (+1.2% both). Prices rose in the Czech Republic (+0.5%) and Slovakia (+0.4%), remained stable in Germany and fell in Poland (-0.3%). For Austria, data are not available for May.

EU27 producer prices rose by 7.1% in May (+7.7% in April), year-on-year. The largest increases were observed in the United Kingdom (+11.9%), Denmark (+10.8%), the Netherlands (+10.7%) and Bulgaria (+10.0%). Prices rose in Poland (+7.8%), the Czech Republic (+6.2%), Germany (+6.1%) and Slovakia (+3.2%). For Austria, data are not available for May. There is none y-o-y price decrease in EU27 countries.

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
