Producer price indices - March 2016

Y-o-y decrease of prices in agriculture and industry accelerated

In March 2016 compared with the previous month, agricultural producer prices went down by 2.1% and prices of market services went up by 0.6%. Industrial producer prices and construction work prices stayed unchanged. In comparison to March 2015, agricultural producer prices were lower by 4.6% and industrial producer prices fell by 4.5%. Prices of market services stayed unchanged. Construction work prices grew by 1.3%.
 

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices decreased by 2.1%. Prices of fruit (-7.3%), milk (-3.5%), cereals (-3.4%) and potatoes (-2.4%) went down. On the decrease were also prices of poultry and vegetables (-2.1% both), pigs for slaughter (-1.9%) and oil plants (-1.4%). Prices of cattle for slaughter (+0.9%) and eggs (+0.2%) went up.

Prices of industrial producers stayed unchanged in total. After nine months of the decreases, prices rose more markedly in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. Prices increased in ‘basic pharmaceutical products’ (+0.6%). Prices were higher in ‘electrical equipment’ and ‘furniture, other manufactured products’ (+0.1% both). On the decrease were prices in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (-1.1%), thereof ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (-1.3%) and ‘dairy products’ (-1.8%). Prices were lower in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-0.4%) and ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-0.9%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices stayed unchanged and construction material input prices were lower by 0.2%.

Market services prices in the business sphere rose by 0.6% due to the price increasing of advertising and market research services’ (+9.1%) and ‘computer programming, consultancy and related services’ (+0.5%). On the decrease were prices of ‘insurance, reinsurance and pension funding services, except compulsory social security’ by 0.5% and ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ (-0.4%). Market services prices excluding advertising services stayed unchanged.
 

Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices went down by 4.6% (-2.9% in February). Prices of crop products went up by 0.6%. Higher were prices of vegetables (+67.0%), potatoes (+47.8%), fruit (+6.7%) and oil plants (+1.9%). Prices of animal products fell by 9.9% due to decreasing prices of milk
(-16.6%), eggs (-8.5%) and pigs for slaughter (-8.7%). On the increase were prices of cattle for slaughter by 0.3%.

Prices of industrial producers went down by 4.5% (-4.0% in February). Lower were prices particularly in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. Prices decreased in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-5.8%) and ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (-4.1%), thereof ‘electricity, transmission and distribution services’ (-6.2%). Prices fell also in ‘mining and quarrying’ (-6.5%) and ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (-2.5%). On the increase were prices in ‘water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation services’ (+0.5%) and ‘furniture, other manufactured products’ (+0.1%).

Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ (-10.8%) decreased the most, y-o-y.

According to an estimate, construction work prices rose by 1.3% (like in February) and construction material input prices fell by 1.7% (-1.4% in February).

Prices of market services in the business sphere stayed unchanged (-0.1% in February). Decreasing were prices in ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ (-0.9%) and ‘insurance, reinsurance and pension funding services, except compulsory social security’
(-4.4%). On the increase were prices of ‘architectural and engineering services’ (+3.4%). Market services prices excluding advertising services were lower by 0.1% (-0.2% in February). 
 

Industrial producer prices in the EU – February 2016*

According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices went down in February by 0.6% (-1.1% in January) in EU28, month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases were observed in Estonia (-5.2%), the Netherlands (-2.8%) and Denmark (-2.6%). On the decrease were also prices in Slovakia (-1.7%), Austria (-0.9%), the Czech Republic (-0.6%) and Poland and Germany (-0.5% both). Prices rose only in Portugal (+0.4%) and the United Kingdom (+0.1%).

Industrial producer prices decreased in February by 4.2% (-3.0% in January) in EU28, year-on-year. Prices fell in all Member States, the most in the Netherlands (-10.5%), Greece (-9.9%), Denmark and Cyprus (-6.4% both). Prices were lower in Slovakia (-4.8%), Austria (-4.2%), the Czech Republic (-4.0%), Germany (-3.0%) and Poland (-2.3%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
