In 2014 more guests arrived by 1.5%, however the number of overnight stay went down
Q4 2014, the number of guests’ overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments increased by 2.8% year-on-year, of which residents by 5.3% and foreigners by 1.2%. In total, there were more guests by 3.1% in this period, foreigners by 4.9% and residents by 0.8%.
During the whole year 2014 collective accommodation establishments reported a lower number of overnight stays by 0.4%; the number of guest increased by 1.5% y-o-y.
The number of overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments totaled 8.5 million in Q4 2014; this was by 2.8% more than in the same period of the previous year. Domestic guests increased their number of nights by 5.3%. The number of overnight stays of non-residents went up by 1.2%. A year-on-year growth was recorded in hotels by 3.4%. On the contrary pensions reported a decrease by 5.0%. Other collective accommodation establishments showed year-on-year increase by 3.5%. In regional breakdown, an increase was shown in nine regions, the highest in Zlinsky region by 11.7% and Pardubicky region by 11.1%. The number of nights went down in Central Bohemia by 6.8% or in Liberecky region by 5.9%.
A total of 3.3 million guests arrived in collective accommodation establishments during the surveyed period; this was 3.1% more year-on-year. The number of non-residents increased by 4.9%; residents came by 0.8% more. The highest number of guest, over 1.2 million, found accommodation in four-star hotels. Regionally, the growth was visible in seven of fourteen regions of the Czech Republic; the highest increase was in South Moravia (by 7.8%), in Moravskoslezsky region (by 6.6%) and in Plzensky region (by 5.9%). Lower demand on accommodation was in Central Bohemia (by 9.4%) or in Ustecky region (by 4.3%).
The highest number of foreign guests (by nationality) came from Germany. There were 402 thousands of German guests in the surveyed establishments; it was by 10.2% more than a year ago. Second largest group were guests from Russia (149 thousand) with the y-o-y decrease in arrivals by 26.3%. Third place was taken by citizens from Slovakia (124 thousand, y-o-y increase by 9.0%). Higher demand was recorded in guest from the UK (by 10.9%), the USA (by 11.9%) or China (by 21.8%). On the contrary lower number of guests came from France by 2.8%.
Spa accommodation establishments were visited by 176 thousand guests in Q4 2014; this was 3.5% down y-o-y. But the number of overnight stays by tourist in spas went up by 5.1%. Domestic clients extended their stays; the number of their overnight stays increased by 24.7%.
Development in 2014
During the whole year 2014, there was a higher number of guests by 1.5%; the number of overnight stays went down by 0.4%. More foreign tourists arrived by 3.5% and their number of overnight stays rose by 0.3%. There were also fewer resident guests by 0.5% with lower number of nights by 1.1%.
From the point of regions, the highest increase in the number of guests was reported in South Moravia (by 3.7%) or in Prague (by 3.7%) and in South Bohemia (by 2.9%). The biggest decrease of guests was shown in Liberecky region (by 4.6%). In the total number of overnight stays, the highest growth was in South Moravia (by 6.3%). In six from fourteen regions, guests recorded higher number of nights than in 2013.
Higher number of foreigner guests came to the Czech Republic in 2014 compared to previous year. A decreased by guests from Russia (by 13.4%; drop by 108 thousand guests) and from Ukraine (by 19.3%; down by 28 thousand of arrivals) was compensated by higher occupancy of guests from neighboring countries. Germans increased their number by 5.1% (by 76 thousand) y-o-y. The number of Slovaks went up by 9.7% (plus 44 thousand) and guest from Poland by 6.4% (by 27 thousand). Higher demand was visible by guests from Asia. Chinese tourists came by 21.6% more and visitors from South Korea too; their arrivals went up by 21.9%.
