The number of guests went up by 5.8% in 2012

Q4 2012, the number of guests’ overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments increased by 3.1% year-on-year, of which non-residents by 6.3%, on the contrary residents went down by 1.5%. In total, there were more guests by 4.7% in this period, foreigners by 5.7% and residents by 3.3%.
During the whole year 2012 collective accommodation establishments reported a higher number of overnight stays by 3.5% and the number of guest increased by 5.8%.

The number of overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments totalled 7.4 million in Q4 2012; this was by 3.1% more than in the same period of the previous year. The number of overnight stays of non-residents decreased by 1.5%, on the contrary the number of overnight stays of residents went up by 6.3%. A year-on-year growth by 5.4% was recorded in all categories of hotels, in pensions by 5.1%. Other collective accommodation establishments reported year-on-year decrease by 7.7%. In regional breakdown, the highest increase was shown in Jihocesky region by 12.5% and in region Vysocina by 11.8%, on the contrary the highest decrease was in Jihomoravsky region by 5.5%.

A total of 2.8 million guests arrived in collective accommodation establishments during the surveyed period; this was 4.7% more year-on-year. The number of non-residents increased by 5.7% and residents by 3.3%. When it comes to the category of accommodation establishments the development of the number of arrivals was similar like in case of overnight stays. Hotels reported raised interest of guests by 5.3%, pensions by 4.8% and the demand for other collective accommodation establishments dropped by 1.1%. Regionally, the growth was visible in all regions of the Czech Republic apart from already mentioned Jihomoravsky region. This second most visited region after the Capital city of Prague, visited by 12 thousand (by 5.9%) fewer guests than in the previous year.

The highest number of foreign guests (by nationality) came traditionally from Germany. In the reference period they totaled 330 thousands, but it was by 0.4% fewer than a year ago. Second largest group were guests from Russia (173 thousand) with the y-o-y increase in arrivals by 24.1%. Third place was taken by citizens from Slovakia (94 thousand, by 10.0% more y-o-y).

Spa accommodation establishments were visited by 168 thousand guests in Q4 2012; this was 1.4% up y-o-y. This was especially due to a high interest of foreign guests; their number in Czech spa resorts increased by 4.6% more than a year ago. The number of residents went down by 1.9%.

Development in 2012

During the whole year 2012 compared to previous year, there was a higher number of guests by 5.8% and a number of overnight stays by 3.5%. Foreign tourists arrived by 6.8% more and their number of overnight stays rose by 5.8%. There were also more residents guests by 4.7% in collective accommodation establishments and they stayed by 1.1% more nights. An average number of overnight stays is in a long term reducing; this was remarkable in 2012 too. Domestic as well as foreign guests spent in average 2.9 nights in surveyed accommodation establishments.

From the point of regions, the highest increase in the number of guests was reported in Plzensky region (by 9.8%) and also in Jihocesky (by 9.6%). A decrease of guests’ interest in accommodation was shown in Jihomoravsky region only (by 0.7%). In the total number of overnight stays, the highest growth was Jihocesky region (by 9.1%). In six from fourteen regions guests stayed fewer nights than in 2011 – in Olomoucky (by 5.1%), Kralovehradecky (by 1.5%), Pardubicky (by 0.9%), Jihomoravsky and Moravskoslezsky (both equally by 0.5%) and Stredocesky (by 0.1%).
