In the Q3 2020, the total number of guests in collective accommodation establishments decreased by 20.7%, year-on-year (y-o-y), and the number of overnight stays of guests in collective accommodation establishments decreased by 16.8%, y-o-y. The summer season brought recovery of the demand for accommodation, however, only from guests from the Czech Republic, while there was still lack of foreign tourists.

The number of overnight stays of guests in collective accommodation establishments reached 17.4 million nights in total in the Q3 2020, which was by 16.8% less compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. To put it in absolute numbers, it was a decrease by 3.5 million nights. The number of overnight stays of guests from abroad decreased by 68.5%. On the contrary, as for tourists from the Czech Republic, this summer was successful. Czechs spent in accommodation establishments in the Czech Republic by 17.2% more nights compared to the previous year.

Almost 6 million guests accommodated in collective accommodation establishments in the Q3 2020, which was a decrease by a fifth, y-o-y. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, it was a decrease by 1.6 million guests. There was mainly a lack of foreigners in Czech accommodation establishments; 2.3 million visits from abroad did not take place. A higher number of guests from the Czech Republic did not compensate this slump. In five-star hotels, arrivals of residents were twice higher, y-o-y, and in four-star hotels they increased by 38%. In summer, accommodation in a traditional segment of boarding houses (+31.1%) and tourist campsites (+20.0%) was successful, too.

As for a regional comparison, the number of guests increased in approximately half of the Regions; however, the number of guests from the Czech Republic increased in all Regions of the CR. The following Regions were the most successful in terms of domestic tourism: the Karlovarský Region (+62.1% of arrivals), the Liberecký Region (+26.3% of arrivals), and the Jihočeský Region (+21.9%). Also the numbers of overnight stays of residents increased, y-o-y, in all Regions in average by 17.2%. However, the Capital City of Prague (Hl. m. Praha Region) remains to be “in the red numbers,” because foreign tourists were considerably missing and still are missing there.

Release of restrictions of international movements of persons valid in spring months brought only a partial return of foreign tourists to Czechia. All key source foreign markets remained below last year's numbers. From the important ones, only Germany attained 90% of last year's arrivals in August 2020. Numbers of guests from other neighbouring countries still decreased by several tens of per cents.
