Higher occupancy of hotels, pensions and camps

Q3 2015, the number of guests in collective accommodation establishments increased by 7.6% and the number of overnight stays by 5.5%. The trend of rising occupancy, which is visible for a couple of last years, has been confirmed in the main season too.

The number of overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments totaled 19.1 million in Q3 2016; this was by 5.5% up than in the same period of the previous year. The number of nights of residents went up by 8.0%; foreign guests spent by 2.2% more nights in accommodation establishments. A year-on-year increase was recorded by almost all categories of accommodation establishment except for other establishments, in which a decrease by 1.8% was shown. The number of overnight stays in hotels went up by 5.4%, in pensions by 13.7% and in campsites by 13.3%. From regional point of view, the highest progress was reported from Ustecky region (+12.3%) mainly due to an increase of the number of residents. The number of overnight stays went up by 16.4% in Ustecky region. Accommodation establishments in South Bohemia showed growth in the number of nights compared to the previous year (+11.4%) too. Both residents (+11.4%) and nonresidents (+11.2%) contributed to this increase equally.

A total of 6.7 million guests arrived in collective accommodation establishments during the surveyed period; this was y-o-y increase by 7.6%. The summer season was also successful as for the number of guests is concerned. Both domestic and foreign guests went up. There were more residents by 666 thousand than non-residents. The numbers of domestic guests went up by 9.0%, foreigners by 5.9%. Occupancy of hotels increased by 8.0% y-o-y, in pensions there were more tourists by 13.7% and campsites welcomed by 8.3% more guests than the last year. From the regional point of view, an increase was shown in almost all regions of the Czech Republic. An exception was Plzensky region, where the number of guests went down by 0.2%, mainly due to the decrease of arrivals of nonresidents.

The highest number of foreign guests (by nationality) came as usual from Germany. Collective accommodation establishments visited more than half million Germans. Compared to the same period of previous year their number went up by 4.6%. The second largest group of foreign guests during the summer period was visitors from Slovakia (207 thousand) with y-o-y increase by 16.3%. The third place was taken by Poland (194 thousand arrivals, y-o-y increase by 9.5%).

From the top ten countries, the highest growth was shown by visitors from South Korea (+24.5%). The decrease in arrivals from Russian federation continued also in the third quarter. Russians (y-o-y decrease by 9.9%) took seventh place right behind arrivals from the United States of America (-1.5%), the UK (+3.2%) and China (+18.0%). Nevertheless, Russians guests still stay in establishments in average longer period (4.2 nights) than other visitors and thus they take the second position in the number of nights, right behind Germans. It is worth mentioning that from the ranking of Top 10 countries guests from Israel took the tenth place with y-o-y growth by 4.1% in the number of overnight stays. Israeli guests stayed in establishments in average longer period (4.3 nights) than other visitors and thus spent higher number of nights with lower number of arrivals.

Spa accommodation establishments visited 220 thousand guests in surveyed period; this was 7.2% more than the same period of last year. The number of nights went on contrary down by 1.8% thanks to foreign clients. The number of domestic guest went up by 5.0%, the number of their nights by 0.1%. There were more foreign guests compared to previous year in Czech and Moravian spa resorts (+10.2%) but they spent fewer nights there (by 5.3%).
