Successful winter season
Q1 2013, the number of guests’ overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments increased by 2.5% year-on-year, of which non-residents by 4.2% and residents by 0.8%. In total, more guests arrived by 3.2%, of which domestic guests by 3.4% and foreigners by 3.0%.
The number of overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments totalled 7.8 million in Q1 2013; this was by 2.5% more than in the same period of the previous year. Non-residents (their number of overnight stays went up by 4.2%) contributed to the growth more than residents (an increase by 0.8%).
In all categories of hotels, there was an increase of the number of overnight stays by 5.3%. Pensions and other collective accommodation establishments went down by 0.5% y-o-y. From regional point of view, the highest increase was shown by accommodation establishments in Pardubicky region by 19.0% and Vysocina region by 17.8%. In Vysocina region the highest increase by 69.4% in the number of overnight stays by foreigner guest was shown due to World championship in Biathlon in Nove mesto na Morave.
A total of 2.6 million guests arrived in collective accommodation establishments; this was 3.2% more than in Q1 2012. In contrast to the number of overnight stays, the number of domestic guests increased more (by 3.4%) than the number of foreigners (by 3.0%). Hotels recorded higher interest by guests by 3.8%, pensions by 1.7% and the demand for other collective accommodation establishments went up by 0.9%. From the regional point of view, an increase was shown in 11 out of 14 regions of the Czech Republic. The highest increase was in Pardubicky region by 19.6% where domestic guests increased their visits by 22.4% than a year ago. On the contrary, Vysocina region attracted more foreigner guests by one third thanks to sport event. The highest decrease was reported by Jihomoravsky region by 8.1%, especially because of the decrease of domestic guests by 10.2%.
The highest number of foreign guests (by nationality) came traditionally from Germany (276 thousand); this was by 2.7% more than a year ago. The second largest group was guests from Russia (170 thousand) with the y-o-y increase in arrivals by 13.7%. From top ten countries, from which the most foreign guests arrived, the number of guests from Austria (by 11.0%) increased remarkably. The highest decrease was pronounced by guests from the Netherlands (by 12.3%) and Italy (by 9.7%).
An average length of stay in surveyed establishments was 3.0 nights in Q1 2013. Slight difference was visible between the length of stay of domestic and foreign guests – residents spent in average 2.9 nights, foreigners 3.1 nights. Visitors from Russian Federation preferred longer stays, in average 5.1 nights. Similarly, guests from the Netherlands and Germany stayed overnight above an average (3.9 and 3.6 nigh respectively).
Spa accommodation establishments visited 1.1 million guests in Q1 2013; this was 11.7% down y-o-y. This decrease was caused by the drop in the number of domestic clients by 26.1%. The number of residents is going down already eight quarters in row. Foreign guest continued a rising tendency and spent in spas by 2.1% more nights than previous year. While the total number of guests in spa accommodation establishments went up by 3.2%, the number of residents decreased by 2.8%. In Karlovarsky region, which was constantly showing the share more than half of the number of arrivals as well as overnight stays in spa establishments, the number of arrivals of residents decreased by 9.7% and their number of overnight stays even by 23.9%.
