Central Statistical Library

The Central Statistical Library, located in Karlín since the year 1948, was completely flooded in August 2002. After a partial renewal of its funds, it resumed operations for the public on 3 May 2004 in the new CZSO building in Prague 10, Skalka. You will find the library on the ground floor, to the right of the entrance to the building.

In the year 2020, the premises of the Central Statistical Library underwent changes. A basic selection of statistical publications and periodicals of Czech and foreign origin, four computer tables and internet access are available to library users. Users can find all information about our publications in the online catalog. The library uses the automated library system ‘’Clavius’’, which also includes a lending system for the registration of readers and loans. The library has most of the publications in one copy, so they can be borrowed only in person. The reader can use their own camera or scan, alternatively he may request a copy for a fee according to the Price List of Information Services and CZSO products.

The book collection of the Central Statistical Library has been built for more than 150 years. The floods in 2002 destroyed about 140,000 volumes by water and mold. Immediately after the floods, work began on a partial renewal of the fund, mainly in the form of collections from non-flooded CZSO premises and generous donations from Czech and foreign institutions. Foreign statistical offices, with which library has been exchanging publications for decades, have often contributed complete sets of their yearbooks and other statistical publications. The library was enriched significantly also by donations from private individuals. The renewal of the library collection continues, nevertheless, today's library collection is still smaller than the original before the flood in 2002.
