Methodology to capture external trade in natural gas updated

The Czech Statistical Office adopted an update of the methodology to capture external trade in natural gas. It will enable to maintain a high information value of these statistical data.


The updated model is based on the Eurostat methodology of Intrastat and Extrastat for special commodities. In order to increase quality of data on trade in natural gas, other data sources will be newly employed as well. Besides data acquired from Extrastat and from reporting units having the duty to report to Intrastat, data of the energy statistics will be applied as well. The processing will use additional data based on values on the amount of natural gas measured at entry and exit points of the transport system in the Czech Republic.

The model shall be applied for the first time in statistical outcomes containing data for 2016. In the products with data for 2014 and 2015 the information on impacts of the modified methodology on figures of external trade in goods will be released in the form of a note in time series.

The first data processed in accordance with the updated methodology shall be published on 9 March 2017 at 9.00 AM in the News Release for January 2017.
