Jan Fischer, President of the Czech Statistical Office
 | On 9 April 2009 appointed Prime Minister of the Government of the Czech Republic by the President of the Czech Republic. From 28 April 2009 the 1st Vice-President of the Czech Statistical Office, Jiří Křovák, was charged with representation of Jan Fischer as the President of the Czech Statistical Office.

CV
Born in Prague in 1951 in a family of professional mathematicians working in the areas of statistics and insurance business. Father, as a research worker at the Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences, devoted himself to mathematical and statistical applications in genetics, selective growing and medicine.
Mr Fischer graduated from the Faculty of National Economy of the University of Economics in Prague, field statistics and econometrics, in 1974. After graduation Mr Fischer began his career at the central statistical office – until the beginning of the 1980’s as a research worker of the Research Institute of Socio-economic Information (then part of the central statistical office). In 1985 he completed postgraduate studies at the University of Economics, field economic statistics. Mr Fischer held various positions at the Federal Statistical Office until 1990 when he was appointed its Vice-President. Then, after the split of the Federation, Mr Fischer was appointed as Vice-President of the Czech Statistical Office in 1993.
From the beginning of the 1990’s Mr Fischer headed the teams responsible for the processing of the results of parliamentary and local elections. Among his terms of reference was also liaison with Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In spring 2001 Mr Fischer was engaged in a mission of the International Monetary Fund to explore the possibilities of creating a statistical service in East Timor.
From September 2000 Mr Fischer worked with the Taylor Nelson Sofres Factum Company as Production Director and from March 2002 up to his appointment as President of the Czech Statistical Office he was the head research worker of the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics of the University of Economics in Prague.
The President of the Czech Republic appointed Mr Fischer as President of the Czech Statistical Office on 24 April 2003.
Mr Fischer is a member of many organisations, inter alia of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) and Czech Statistical Company.
Mr Fischer is married for the second time, father of three children.
